Stanier´s drums are at the front of the stage for a good reason, though, maybe it´s one of those things where the fact that such music is being actually performed live is more exciting than the music in its own right (hope that made sense).

That made perfect sense to me.

I saw them once, like 7 years ago or something, back before all this razzmattazz...and twice in the last 2 years. The music can be reduced to an ok melody here and there and great drumming. Everything else is a weak hand job. The last time I saw them, everyone but Stainer was really weak on their instruments.

Fuck no!

"That drummer is amazing, I can't believe he plays that stuff. I can't see what the point is though"

is the best assessment of Battles I've heard.

For the rock? For fun? For to make a mighty noise?

Since when was there any 'point' to any of this?

Battles at least have ambition surely? Not for Battles is regurgitating 90s noise-rock or post-punk or whatever...

It doesn't really rock though, and it's too fiddly to dance to and it's too much from the brain to connect in any other way. I think they're really impressive and the first time I saw them play I really enjoyed it but I can't imagine a time when I would want to listen to them on record.

Camaro wrote:saw them headline with caribou opening a month or so back. Utter crap. Caribou blew them out of the water. I left after about 3 songs. So fucking annoying, and the sound was shit too. This is at the metro where the sound is shit anyway, but Caribou sounded worlds better, so I don't blame the venue.

Was at that show, too. Sound was crap. Battles were kinda crap. Their previous Chicago show at the Empty Bottle was light years better. Oh, and Caribou were definitely crap. Born Ruffians were definitely not crap.

Some lady dressed as a pixie didn't think so when I saw them. She kept bumping into me and screamed in my ear when they finished their set.

I used to be Battles-curious but I just don't trust them anymore. They seem to be kinda soulless plus they get annoying after a few listens.
