Man I love both these bands...

When you put it on paper, I guess it is kind of similar. I am so used to looking at these bands as their own unique entity. One of the great things about both of them, and their peers, is that all of them had very much their own sound. It is so easy to hear the differences in them.

But really, aren't they both AWESOME?! :D

Growing up in Green Bay Wi, I got to see both many many times...

the First time I saw Killdozer this was the line up...

the Jesus Lizzard
Killdozer
Shorty (pre-us maple band)

the first time I saw the cows I think the line up was...

Cows
Tar
Surgery
(some no name local)

I know I paid less than $7.00 for both shows... I would pay about $35.00 to see either tomorrow... man I was lucky to grow up where I did...

I know next to nothing about this Slint group everyone goes on about round here.

And Shellac - don't know hardly nuthin bout them either.

Don't see this as something to 'admit' though as if I should be ashamed. JC3 loaned me some of their stuff and it just didn't float my boat so I decided not to look into them further.

I'm not one for listening to stuff because it might make me more or less popular.

Killdozer:...kind of weird, uneasy, and nervous...

precisely what i love about them.

See, I usually like that kind of feeling too...but I felt like they - or rather, the singer - was sneering and laughing at me the entire time, and I just didn't like the feeling. I know that's a weird feeling to get because it's pretty much an exchange of dialogue between two characters, but it's true.

I find this really strange considering your avatar... you should love Killdozer, as they are pretty much a slowed down Cows (except I think the Cows came after the dozer) songs about people going now-where, that have a sad but funny bend to them... they are really an album band, as they tend to hit a groove and just nail you into the ground with it... esp live...

Well, I think it's where I started with them. The one Killdozer recording I had in full was the Intellectuals are Shoeshine Boys of the Ruling Elite EP, and I thought it ranged from okay to flat-out awful...I actually got rid of it last night. This is going to sound hilarious from a guy who likes Arto Lindsay's singing on the DNA records, but I just couldn't stand Michael Gerald's vocals...I think it's indisputable that he got way better with time.

Some of the other songs I have by them - "King of Sex" and "Man Vs. Nature" especially - are fantastic, so I think I should probably get Snake Boy and 12 Point Buck at some time. Best moment: I thought the guitar solo in "King of Sex" was a harmonica solo the first two times I heard it.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

Don't fret. You're not missing much.

Red Lorry Yellow Lorry were a boring indie britpop band from the 1980s, and Green on Red are kind of a lame ripoff of '80s acts like The Church and Echo and the Bunnymen, with occasional Grateful Dead overtones.

Green on Red were contemporaries of those bands, and I would say were more influenced by the 60s American psych Bands that coincidentally influenced those English twerps. They were considered part of the college rock hipster so-called Paisley Underground along with the likes of the Dream Syndicate, the Rain Parade, and gosh, who knows what else, like I could give. I saw Green on Red at the Uprising in DeKalb, Illinois (later re-named Otto's) and I was impressed at how their singer was so shitfaced he could barely stand, but was completely on-game when he got on stage.

The U-Men
- Awesome and influential Seattle band from the late 80s. Were lambasted in the 80s for their goofy looks. Performed by a lake in the late 80s and set the stage on fire (or something along those lines), which Mark Arm from Mudhoney later said was the best show he'd ever been to. The Butthole Surfers' "O-Men" was written about them. You can see a video of them here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=84DHHdQUpnQ (not their best song, unfortunately). Broke up and some of its members joined the FAR inferior Gas Huffer.

The Crows
- "Dark mambo" side project of AmRep's Tom Hazelmyer featuring the U-Men's GREAT lead singer, John Bigley, on vox. 4-5 good songs, but the album gets old real quick. Still, they're alright.

-Dude, don't even bother. Lame hardcore, with an asshole lead singer to boot.
