I don't think we'll be seeing Dixie Dave yak on Conan's stage anytime soon though.

Weedeater and US Christmas, Mike?

You are almost missing out living in Brooklyn.

Oh man. It's an embarassment of riches. In NC, I was lucky if 2 bands I wanted to see came through in a month. Up here, I sometimes have to choose between great shows on the same night.

The only bands I love that I never get to see are very underground heavy rock acts from Australia or South America. The internets, she is a double-edged sword. I shouldn't even know these bands exist, but now I like them and know I'll never get to see them live.

Do you subscribe to the Metal Kingdom blog? Metal Kingdom is an all Latin American metal venue in Elmhurst.

They just had an open bar show that must have been completely batshit.

WHA?!

I had no idea such a thing existed. I cannot imagine the range of horrors and beauties on display at the Metal Kingdom open bar show.

There's some good psychedelic/stoner/doom rock and metal coming out of South America. I'll plug my Peruvian buddy Marcos' band, Reino Ermitaño:

Stuff just sounds more evil when it's sung in Spanish by a chick.

On the excellent Canadian TV show "How It's Made," in an episode about manufacturing high-voltage fuses, one of the assembly workers had hands littered with swastika tattoos, maybe 20 of them all tolled. You never saw the worker's face, and it was a little disconcerting to see disembodied hands doing these expert, minute assembly operations looking like that. It seemed like this assembler both got those tattoos and started work at this job a very long time ago.

On closer still-frame oh-my-god inspection, it became obvious that the hands also had pink nail polish, and a diamond wedding ring.

I just saw this, and searched for the terms "how it's made" and "swastika" on Google to see who else noticed, and your post here was the first result. The nail polish and diamond ring bit leaves me with more questions than answers.
