that's a thoroughly magical compilation, really wonderful; but I'll bet you weren't dancing about and swinging from your chandelier whilst it was on.

Did you guys know there's a "new" Nick Drake comp coming out, comprised of home recordings?

I am intrigued.

Today was a good day:

Greenhornes
Squirrel Bait
PiL
and some semi-ambient Pigface

Actually looks pretty pretentious in retrospect, but it sounded fine

Hmm, looks like just about all of that is on Time has Told Me, and it's missing some of the very, very best from that album set. I'm still intrigued though, maybe it'll be polished up some or remastered or somesuch (baby/bathwater danger)

ha! right on, I just bought that one myself a few months ago.

(I was led to it by a Screaming Trees cover of the song 'Freedom', but I can think of lots of other bands who must owe a mighty debt to that Buffalo sound...)

yeah actually i think kerble mentioned it in gabbly once. i think it's basically the same stuff as on time has told me?. the liner notes in time has told me says:

"all tracks have been transferred from original copies of nicholas rodney drake's home tapes and expertly equalized and mastered using noise reduction and speed correction. claims that other recordings have been sourced from master tapes should be regarded with extreme skepticism."

this makes me wonder why they would release another, although i understand gabrielle drake has a hand in it and may contain some other unreleased stuff--perhaps better mastering as well. whatever, i will get it. sounds neat.

i like this comp because it's so, so raw. if y'all drake fans haven't heard it, i would highly recommend. especially the cover of "all my trials" with his sister doing harmonies (ugh, soul shattering). and there's some fun 4am rambling going on where drake is clearly fucked up.

Probably a third of the ones I give regular rotation...

Do you know the bands Trapeze or Truth & Janey? How about Cactus?
