But they are besmirching Mel Sterland's good name, my man. Surely you won't stand for that?

Ronaldo McDonald doesn't bother me either.

Mel's done a perfectly good job of that by himself

Leeds have made a move for a new striker today. Thank the stars. I've never heard of Anthony Elding but his stats make him look like he knows how to hit the back of the net. If he can slot in next to Beckford, this could be a good signing. I'm assuming the Wikipedia is incorrect about his height. I can't imagine that he is only 4'11''.

How on earth have we managed not to fill the left-back role yet? I'm praying there's another signing before the end of the day. I can't help but feel the root of our problems is the lack of a dedicated left-back. Seems like it's been rocky ever since we lost Clapham.

I wonder if Macca would have kept Derry and Thomson? It's a shame Wise didn't piss off a couple of weeks earlier.

I signed Elding for Rotherham in Football Manager, he performed well on loan but became a total liability once he became permanent. He sounds better in real life, but I note he doesn't seem to have played higher than League Two yet. Hopefully raw goalscoring ability will translate - a goal every other game is good in any division.

Left back is a bit of a worry but Ben Parker seems to have lessened the urgency with some good performances lately. Derry I don't particularly care about - Kilkenny will do his job, and is younger and potentially better - and Thompson has only gone to Hartlepool on loan for three games. He can be brought back if required.

He can't be 4'11''.

Our lass is 5'2'' and I can't imagine a professional footballer being three inches shorter than her.

If he can change height at whim like that, he'll be hard to mark in dead-ball situations.

Kenton has signed a permanent deal.

I just had a look at the Wikipedia page history, and it seems that throughout the period when he was 4'11", he was known as 'Anthony Vina Eldinho'.

my dad, writing on Wise and Newcastle wrote:It has been a quiet week in Lake Woebegon, my home town. Not so in some parts of the North of England, where the locals wear flat caps, walk whippets and, according to Kevin Keegan, never go to the theatre. Newcastle United have been luring the locals from the roar of the greasepaint by scoring no goals in three games. Actually Kevin is wrong. St James's Park has been the Theatre of the Absurd for years - if Ionesco's Rhinoceros charged across the pitch (this is not a reference to Mark Viduka) we wouldn't be terribly surprised.

Geordie emotional incontinence will infantilise us all. (Discuss). I wonder how many Novocastrians were chaining teddy bears to railings or whatever people did when the late Princess of Wales left us. If you are foolish enough to spend time, as I have recently, reading internet message boards, you will find a mélange of paranoia, pessimism and sentimentality. Mourinho, McClaren and Allardyce having passed up - or never been offered - the chance to seize the tiller of the Sinking Ship Minus Fifteen. Is the appointment of Gary McAllister wild optimism or a piece of fine judgement? The official announcement yesterday was delayed until 5.00pm so that the players were not confused by rumours. But weren't they staring at screens themselves, or were they actually kicking a ball around?

I've just asked for his verdict on Anthony Elding - he watched him week in week out for three years when he was playing at Stevenage Borough.
