I disagree, it's akin to yelling threats of violence to someone.

Rape is sexual violence and is not restricted to women (unlike specified racial abuse would restricted to the race the abuse concerned), although it is far more common for women to be raped. If we're moving this onto a man (and not wanting to imagine me shouting about raping him) it would then be a threat of violence realistically, regardless of what colour they were.

While linking it to racial abuse might seem natural because they're both terrible things which garner extreme kneejerk reactions from people, it's really a poor analogy. But then again, that's just my opinion.

I do agree though, that it was an awful thing to shout and, although i'm fairly sure she didn't hear me, it was a total dickhead moment that leaves a bad feeling with me, nevermind anyone else.

Rape is a buzz word and, while it is really an awful thing, to give one word so much weight and power is wrong. Look at how this is already being referred to: "a rape anecdote". I didn't rape anyone nor intend to. It was a drunken throwaway comment, not a statement of true intent.

Think of this logically, what would be worse; for me to shout that when drunk or for me to punch someone when drunk?

Obviously an act of physical harm is way worse than shouting a threat of violence is regardless of circumstances. Yet, if this had been a story about punching some guy or threatening to you probably wouldn't have as strong a reaction as you do currently. It might even be all "man, I've done that".

I have no objections to anyone having a problem with that story, I'll probably agree with you. But for someone who recently smacked a guy in an act of road rage saying "that shit's a bad signal" seems to be a fine example of why the word rape having so much weight behind it is fucked up.

That's not me starting shit with you either, I've no real view on the road rage incident. Personally, I've never punched anyone without them attacking me first, but then I've shouted and done some dumb shit when bladdered.

I can't make any sense of this statement.

Dude, your story made me react. I don't know what more you could ask from a 'fucked up thing I did' story. You want a reaction from people when you tell of that sort of incident, no? That was my reaction.

I just cannot ever imagine myself doing such a thing, it struck a nerve. To me, yelling that at a chick would be like hacking the legs off a puppy. It makes me cringe to think even about. I understand you know it was wrong and know it was foul, I do. I am not attacking you at all. You didn't do anything wrong here by posting yr story. Certain things just strike a nerve with certain people.
I was just trying to get in there before anyone said anything stupid to kayte for voicing her displeasure at the way things looked like they might be heading. I know joking about horrible shit can help sometimes and nothing is off limits but when someone who might be directly effected by whatever is being joked out comes out and says 'please no' we probably should drop it, you know?
I made the racism analogy because it's another thing that people might do 'for a laugh' or flippantly while drunk not thinking anything of it. But to the person who was the target it's much larger and more menacing. Not that you yelled at her for a laugh, it was just something that came out, I get it.
A car load of goofs drive by a group of gay people standing in front of a gay bar and yell 'we'll kick your ass you fuckin' fags' and then speed off laughing. To them it was just some stupid shit to yell but to the group of gay people, it hits much deeper on a different level. Ya dig?

This is pathetic rationalization. How about this -- I would never even think of shouting anything like the shit you did at a woman walking alone on the street. I would never shout anything like it at any woman, anytime, for any reason, drunk or sober. It's way worse than punching some dude, it's a dangled threat of impending horrible violence. There's no way that she could know that you had no bad intent. Comparing it with giving someone a black eye or a bloody nose just emphasizes how much you dont get it. It was a bullshit bully move that marks you as a weak little creep. What you typed above does nothing to minimize that.

Im not pissed that you revealed your dirty secret in this thread or even that you did what you did, but I am pissed that youre now trying to make it seem like there's something wrong with people who think it's fucked up.

Mine was in my school days. Being one of 5 females in my building (and one of maybe 20 in my school), I was usually very conscious of my actions and of how the slightest slip would contribute to the bad reputation of women in the job field for which I was training. I considered it my duty to behave professionally at all times and to succeed and outdo my male counterparts in everything from grades to athletics to extracurriculars to garnering the respect of my colleagues. I was motherfucking unstoppable
until ghetto night- it started out slow with poorly pitched singing to Biz Markie’s 1989 hit single “Just a friend”, but two 40s of Mad Dog 20/20 later and I was running up and down the halls half-naked, screaming about anything I could think of, tackling anyone I saw, pinning them to the ground, and giving them purple nurples and raspberries.
I ran into the shortest person on my floor’s room as he was sitting shirtless at his computer, raided his fridge, inexplicably found 3 kinds of chocolate syrup, and poured all three bottles of syrup on said neighbor. Covered him and surrounding areas completely in the sticky, sweet, brown syrup. Proceeded, then, to second shortest neighbor’s room, whose ears I began to fill with peanut butter before becoming distracted by an airsoft gun in the corner, which I stole, ran onto the roof, took off the remainder of my clothes, and sniped passersby. I don’t know why I removed my clothing, but I fell off the ladder trying to come down, and I don’t remember the rest, but one of the girls in my building carried to my room some hours later when she found me “raccoon hunting”.
I went to school the next morning reeking of fruity alcohol. It was difficult to hold my head up and pretend nothing happened for the next year. I still work with many of the people who witnessed this, though I don’t think I’ve redeemed myself with syrup boy yet.

edit: s = y thing was fucked up, but he admitted that was the point. It was terrible and he's ashamed. Cool. He knows it was wrong, so you're not really convincing him of anything, just cornering him into defending his actions, giving you more ammunition. What a lame way to prove your moral superiority.

Three of the four most important women in my life have been raped. One was scarred so bad that she shook and cried the first time four or five times we held hands. We deal with the fallout of her rape at least weekly. The second was raped at twelve by her father and spent her junior high and high school years fucking married men for attention. The third was my mother. When she was fourteen, she and her sister were raped by a group of sailors. My grandfather pretty much wanted nothing to do with them after that.

Fratboy humor about rape is akin to redneck humor about homosexuals or Republican golf buddy humor about blacks. The shit is born our of ignorance and fear. The difference is that it's about a thousand times less funny.

I'll give everyone the benefit of the doubt and assume that the "funny rape ha ha" bullshit is just "look how drunk I was" oneupsmanship and let it go. You might want to consider that at least a few of the posters on this forum might have been raped.

For the record, the fourth woman that is important to me, the one who hasn't been raped, is my seven year old daughter. You'll forgive me if I'm a bit sensitive about this subject.
