You know you want it.

Did I issue a command? Make a demand? The verb was "caution." Would "suggest" have let me off the hook? Or do my penis and sexual orientation put me in a hole from which I'll never emerge?

rachael, you seem well liked around here, which would suggest to me that you're generally a pleasant person to be around and just generally good. That's the only reason I'm bothering to defend myself to you instead of just saying "Fuck off" and then ignoring you.

I'm a thoroughly liberal, fairly sensitive yet not PC guy. I have straight friends, lesbian friends, and minority friends who all seem to like me and who have never accused me of being a patriarchal oppressor, a rapist-in-waiting, or Uncle Charlie.

If you cannot read a post of mine that mentions sexual orientation or gender without your suitcase full of straight-men-are-not-to-be-trusted baggage exploding, it would be best for both of us if you just scrolled on past my posts.

But I don't want that to happen. I know that you have worthwhile, fun, insightful, knowledgeable things to say. I'd like to continue interacting with you. But I'm not going to be the whipping boy for my sex because you had a humorectomy and I won't play PC ball.

I've been to Berlin (shudder) and whatever that place was that used to be on Clark street before it turned into The Eagle... is The Eagle even still around?

There's some bar in Boystown called Sidetracks. Back in the early 90s, it was either just opening or maybe it was getting renovated? Can't remember. Anyway, the theme was this medieval/castle motif. My friend waited tables with this guy that would pay $5/hr to anyone that would help with the mundane task of sanding the edges of foam core 'bricks' that were then painted and used for the castle-like decor. We did most of the prep work at a space in Buena Park while listening to US99. Then, there were a couple days spent at the club where I assisted putting some of these bricks on the wall using a hot glue gun.

That's ridiculous, dude. Your statements indicate you think you're better than gay men.

Here's what you said:
Gay guys are way, way more persistent and clumsy in their pickup attempts than straight guys. And they have a much harder time taking "no" for an answer. Ladies, count yourselves lucky.
You have no idea what it's like to be the only female in a club full of sweaty, foul, straight rock dudes. Seriously.

First of all, I've already explained my statement was lighthearted. I hardly think I have a big enough sample set to issue a true blanket statement about anyone, gay men included. I was kidding. If that wasn't clear, then I apologize.

SO LET ME BE PERFECTLY CLEAR - I DO NOT THINK I'M BETTER THAN GAY MEN OR ANYONE ELSE.

(It's goddamn absurd I even have to say that.)

And while I don't know what it's like to be the only woman in a club of sweaty, foul, straight rock dudes, I have been in many such clubs. My girlfriend and my female friends definitely know what it's like and I've seen what they've gone through firsthand. If I had been making that statement with sincerity, then obviously I would've been way off. But I wasn't.
