.308 BA, 19 HR, 52 RBI, .919 OPS

Starting RF Ichiro Suzuki's numbers for comparison:

.302 BA, 3 HR, 21 RBI, .733 OPS

You gotta have somebody from Seattle.

Well, actually Ichiro was voted in by the public, which includes international (Japanese) votes.

Grazy Sidemore - already with a 20/20 season at the halfway point - was 10th.

Is Joe Crede really popular in Japan?

I'm not pretending to know how it works; my explanations are a grasp at finding meaning in the incomprehensible. Like how Ryan Theriot could receive more total votes than David Wright.

Theriot is gritty and hustly.

This is far from incomprehensible.

The Cubs, like it or not, have an enormous fan base across the country. Ask any national league team in a small market what it's like to play the Cubs and have what's supposed to be your crowd errupt at every hit, strikeout or homerun by the Cubs. People throughout the country who don't have an MLB team can catch Cubs games on the WGNs.

Plus, the Riot is hitting .313 with a .390 OBP so it's not like he's not really good.

He was voted in by the players.
Dude can still catch.

Better than A.J.? Great, a players' popularity contest. I like the old way they used to pick all star teams, where the fans picked the starters and the managers picked the rest. No way is Varitek a better catcher than Pierzynski this year. The White Sox have the best team ERA and A.J. is hitting around .300. I understand why Navarro made it, but Varitek couldn't hit a mosquito with a rolled up newspaper these days.

The Chicago Cubs acquired pitcher Rich Harden from the Oakland Athletics in a six-player trade on Tuesday, a day after the rival Milwaukee Brewers landed CC Sabathia.

The Cubs received the right-handed Harden and righty Chad Gaudin for pitcher Sean Gallagher, outfielders Matt Murton and Eric Patterson, and minor leaguer John Donaldson.

Man, if Beane's giving up Harden, it makes me wonder what's wrong with the guy and what are we missing in this deal...

I guess it's just typical A's unloading a guy before they have to pay him...

I like Murton a lot - supposedly can't hit righties...Why is Pie untouchable again? Beane might not have wanted him...I guess we're banking on Soriano being pretty dang healthy when he gets back, that Johnson's back issues are over, Fukodome's calf is nothing to worry about for us to be giving up a coupla decent outflielders when everybody's injured?...fuck it, I'm happy with this, I think...
