Yeah it's not like Iggy is a lifelong dedicated member or anything, but he did throw his support behind Reagan. Also," In the 1970s Iggy Pop (James Newell Osterberg from Muskegon, Michigan) released a magnificent, howling opus called ˜I m a Conservative . Brilliant, brilliant satire, the liberal music press agreed, clapping their hands. Until Iggy said: ˜Uh, no, I actually am a conservative. " Source

Surprises me a bit about Iggy, but not that much either. Iggy's one of the greatest performers ever, and he's got great instincts in many areas, but he never came across as being all that smart or self-aware to me, and in many ways I think self-awareness is closely linked with where a person's political beliefs lie on the 'ol spectrum. Whether a person's beliefs are built on a misunderstanding or an outright lie, be it lies of the world/society/state, or a naivety towards other people's suffering. And how knowledge of the suffering of others, and of the mass oppression of justice, decency, humanity, unconditional love, and "equality" (which apparently Iggy is lukewarm about) in the interests of corporate profit that is this god-forsaken world(and perhaps most notably, any form of modern "conservatism"), might change the kind of language a person is most passionate about(or not). But I do think, maybe naively, that the vast majority of the time it would make people distance themselves from calling themselves a Republican, or at least make them wanna be sure they knew what they were talking about. Be more hesitant to use the empty rhetoric they were spouting off the other day cause it sounded cool, about freedom and small government. It sounds like anarchy, which is totally punk rock woohoo! But they maybe aren't educated to the fact that, though anarchy is certainly cool and all, people need to be protected from the mess they've created, especially where the most innocent and vulnerable and poor are systemically targeted and scapegoated. And I'd guess that Iggy is no exception, politically, that is. What kind of "freedom" are you complicit in if there isn't equality? I know that sometimes people just don't care too. Oh well. There are still kittens. Bunny rabbits, too..Though I've thought a little differently of Iggy since seeing the Stooges documentary, in a good way. He was cool in it. He is what he is. At least James Newell Osterberg, Jr. isn't trying to be anyone other than himself. Sorry. It's these weed gummies. They shouldn't make them taste so damn good.
