Whoa whoa whoa. Listen, and you can make fun of me all you want about this...I'm a huge Bauhaus fan...HUGE. But, I disagree with that statement wholeheartedly. Bowie's version is untouchable. Their version is good, great even, but not better than Bowie's.

It seems to me, from what I remember, that Bauhaus' cover version tend to be almost note for note the same as the original.

Didn't they also cover "Baby's On Fire" by Eno? Same thing.

Speaking of Eno, I love his version of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". Much better than the original.

Rosalie- Thin Lizzy

Starry Eyes- Seaweed (and I never even liked Beat Happening, and had lost a lot of interest in Seaweed, but this version of this song sticks)

Citadel- Redd Kross

Season of the Witch- Terry Reid...I also like his version of Something's Got a Hold of my Heart.

American Pie- Killdozer

I had this 7" in the nineties that was a split record between a band called 2Bad and a band called Happily Ever After. One band covered Lexicon Devil, the other covered Wasted. The label was off so I was confused as to who did what cover, but the cover of Lexicon Devil killed.
You call me a hater like that's a bad thing

Yeah, just a little sped up.
I understand preferring it (I like it but I prefer Bowie's and, you know, he *wrote* it), but "blows it out of the water?"

I'm with Mark on this.

On the subject of great versions that don't stray far from the original, The Faces doing "Maybe I'm Amazed" is heavenly.
I like Macca's version and, you know, he *wrote* it, but The Faces version with Ronnie's sweet intro followed by Rod's gravel throat kicking in the door. Nice.
And the Wurlitzer in lieu of the acoustic piano sounds great.
I love Wurlitzers.
Love.

So, it's not better, but it's every bit as great.
