I'll take them over Guttermouth any day. The Vandals haven't aged all that well for me either.
the Vandals had a run between like...1992 and 1995 where they absolutely ripped. most likely due to Freese being on drums. i still listen to Live Fast Diarrhea frequently and it is great. the Quickening had great songs but the recording sucks ass. I'm kinda bummed when I saw them on that tour my buddy videotaped it and the audio was incredible, but I no longer have the VHS - i've dug through my parents basement and it is nowhere to be found.

No Use for a Name, Diesel Boy, etc. all sucked.

I still like some of the Christmas album.
me too. i listened to it for the first time in maybe twenty years a few weeks ago at the gym and loved the dumb songs.

i also remember years ago at SIRS practice, we were gonna play a show right before christmas and Warmowski wanted to cover "March of the Sugar Plum Fairies" and i immediately told him about the Vandals version. he was not impressed :) instead we settled on Under the Christmas Fish by the Didjits

I miss Rob more every day.

There's kind of a Danny Elfman quality to the Vandals stuff.. which can be annoying if yr in a bad mood, but is certainly not generic on the level of NUFAN, Strung Out, etc.
i know the guitarist (well, of the current lineup, since maybe the 3rd record) plays with Oingo Boingo and I know Freese has played w/ Elfman

There are some great tracks on The Quickening, but that's the only one I've heard of theirs from the 90s. Peace Thru Vandalism / When in Rome were great, I still play those all the time.
