Goat before all others. If you're not swayed by the first four tracks, then nothing on any other JL record is going to convert you. Down is a close second. I like Show a lot, not everyone does.

The JL represented an era and a genre in an unparalleled manner. If you dislike them, you pretty much have to dislike about fiftyother former and current bands as a result.

Lady Shoes is my favorite track off of Goat.

I've been listening to Liar a lot lately and whenever I hear Boilermaker kick right in at the beggining of the album, I want to crash my car out of pure joy.

I've been tryin' to find Down and Goat on vinyl but haven't had any luck. Would anyone care to rate Down compared to Liar (only because Goat is everyone's favorite)?

Down is ok, and it's certainly better than 90% of every album ever made, but the high points on it don't reach nearly as far as Liar. I figure Countless Backs Of Sad Losers and Horse are as about good as they get on Down, and those two aren't even allowed to look in the direction of Gladiator, Puss, and Dancing Naked Ladies on Liar.

Hell, Dancing Naked Ladies on it's own is better than Down.

Yeah Down sucks for the most part, it's limp. Like an old man's cock. Limp I tell ya.

I just got a copy of The Jesus Lizard EP. Well. I was kind of disappointed. I expected it to be some early stuff. My fault, I should have seen that two of the songs were on Blue also. The song title "Inflicted by hounds" alone had put my expectations high...

The EP is as "good" as Blue. The worst music that band has ever made. Still better than 95% of all the other 90´s rock music.

Listening to that EP, I found something that in my opinion got better about The Jesus Lizard with every release: Yows voice. His vocal style evolved to perfection at the end.

On Head, Pure, Goat etc. most of the time he sang with a moron´s voice. Sounding purposely stupid. Reminds me of Jello Biafra.
On Shot and Blue he sang with that mean, ugly, psychotic sounding voice. More like Johnny Rotten...

goat highlights: dudley, mouthbreather, nub, monkey trick, south mouth, rodeo. goat, while a great album, is way too short while bang is like best-of. man, i love those rare tracks + it's hour long album. and it sticks to the touch and go years. bang wins over goat.

Finally got "Down" on vinyl a couple days ago.

I really dig this album. The artwork matches the albums' feel so well it's almost creepy.


Did Steve record this one? The album doesn't sound as hard hitting as Goat or Liar but still sounds great.
