What The Protoolio is omitting is that upon meeting me, he kicked me in the balls, pulled the back of my shirt up over my head, then pushed me to the ground, dropping his business card on my back as he stormed off. That guy's a fucking dick.

You're a pussy. That's just the "Chicago Hello". Next time man up a bit before we meet.

A Chicago Hello is when you stuff a sausage down someone's pants and hold the ketchup. What you did was a mix between a Milwaukee Scuttle and a Detroit Donkeypunch.

That was me. I'm glad I left a lasting impression.

Slint was great. Weird and odd and loud and soft and uncomfortable and comforting. I really enjoyed it. All the subtle little nuances were there. It was pretty incredible that they pulled it off so well live. I don't know how many people were there but it was a fucking lot and during Don, Aman you could have heard a pin drop (if the ground wasn't made of grass I mean, but instead like linoleum or something.) Slint rules.

GZA was very disappointing. I was excited about it. We listened to Liquid Swords on the way to Chicago. I hadn't heard it for a long time and was reminded how great it is. The highlight of that record is obviously RZA's production of which you could hear exactly zero decibels. GZA's posse was kind of a team of douche bags, too. The only Wu member there was Cappadonna. It sounded like a bunch of guys yelling shit that you couldn't understand with no music. Too bad.

Sonic Youth ruled as I expected them too. Everyone's right about it being too quiet though, and Kim's bass was completely inaudible.

I got to meet El Protoolio, Caix, hench and tipcat who are all stand up guys. I got to hang out with DrAwkward who still rules. And I gave kerble a hearty man hug.

All in all it was a fantastic night. Sorry I missed everybody at The Note. I was tired and wanted to sleep and Drew wanted to all night it back to Minneapolis so we drove to Elgin discussing what we were going to do and ended up getting a hotel room (two beds.)

one to sully up, and one to snuggle in, I assume.
it was really nice to meet you, albeit briefly, Shaun.

Grizzly Bear is insanely talented. what a fucking band.
A+ best band I've seen in forever, for sure. glacial, beautiful, geeky, inspiring, creative, and man could they fucking sing. so awesome.

battles sounded great from all over the park. pleasant surprise, for sure.

re: sy
I don't know what you folks are talking about. Mr. Maiolo and I geeked on sonic youth's set right behind the board. it was really compressed and controlled-sounding, but holy hell was that good.

Mr. Chimp, I know.

six acre lake wrote:Last night was a glaring example as to why outdoor show generally blow. I thought the whole thing last night sounded terrible. I moved around quite a bit and even right in front of the board it sounded like i was listening to the show through my old cassette walkman with broken headphones. It was a drag and im glad the night was cheap. I hope they rectify the sound for todays line up.

And as a side note. Chicago is so clean and the ladies are so pretty. Everytime i come out here to see some friends it blows me away. The ladies back home (Philly) generally have a more rough, greasy, tattoed, fuck you demeanor about them..which gets pretty old fast. Bravo Chicago.

I feel the need to update my thoughts since there was a huge difference in days. Sat. was a much better day sound wise. Califone was wonderful, William Parker blew my away as usual and Battles...oh my lord...they were wonderful. Hell even Iron and Wine was quite nice. The sound was a thousand times better today.
