I finally got a chance to mess around with my pedal. I really like it. I was using it as a preamp into a Peavey Bass 400 solid state head with a vintage Ampeg 8x10. I also had good results running it into an Acoustic solid state power amp and a current model Ampeg 8x10.
As I mentioned before, I personally think the Sansamp Bass Driver DI pedal does the ultra low, SVT-esque rumble better, so I won't be getting rid of that anytime soon (unless a '69-'78 SVT or a V-9 comes my way for a reasonable price), but the Rusty Box is extremely cool and capable of a wide variety of great tones. Obviously, I got that Jesus Lizard bass sound right away, but there's much more to it than just that. It is pretty easy to get into very high gain territory if that's your thing.
Overall: 8.5 out of 10. Will not disappoint. It looks awesome too.

By the way, the setting I found to be the most pleasing to my ears goes like this:
Volume: n/a (using the Line Out into the input on my power amp)
Treble 11:00
Bass: 3:00
Midrange: 9:00
Input Gain knob: around 12:00 or so.
Input Gain switch: Lo
Boost: On.
Anyone else want to share their settings?

Well, don't mind if I do...
for the Rick/rockband set-up:
GAIN - 10 o'clock
MID - 10 o'clock
BASS - Max
TREBLE - 3-4 o'clock
VOLUME - to taste (depends on gig and venue) this output, to my ears seems to have a little better low-end than the LINE out.
GAIN SWITCH - Hi
BOOST - On and off durring songs... I use the BOOST as my "distortion box"
I use mine with a Traynor PM-100 solid state power amp and a custom built 2x12"

That's for Bass and not guitar, right?
I finally got mine today, after it went to the wrong address, got forwarded, but the postman took it to the neighbor's across the street, where it sat for a couple days.
I tried it out with Mandroid's Schecter guitar into my Champ, and for guitar, it makes a nice, weird distortion.

Why don't you just sell the Sans-amp on Craigslist or Ebay?
Were a few weeks away from the next batch of these anyway.

traynor ts-50 combo. opening bid of $200. if any of you pay that much, i'll be disappointed in you. wait 'til it doesn't sell then offer a reasonable amount.
another one. opening bid of $55.
