I remember watching Shellac play one of these songs to the point where I was about to ask them if they wouldn't mind finishing it up soon, we all have very important things to do. Sometimes dragging things out longer than expected works, sometimes it just sounds like the song should have ended a few minutes earlier. Both are the case on the album.

I was actually thinking some songs could stand to be a lot longer. The intro to "Steady as She Goes" in particular could have gone twice as long as it did on the Burn to Shine dvd and I don't think I'd have minded.

when I went to get my copy there was a indie rock couple standing there when I grabbed it off the wall the girl saw and said 'oh, there's a new Shellac record out' the dude said 'Shellac? I'm kinda past the whole Shellac thing' she said 'yeah, I know what you mean'
the girl was cute but the dude was one of those real feminine messy hairs with the tight pants

God I hate you indie rockers so much, I just wanna stomp all of you

When I imagine you (as I do every evening just before bed-time) I imagine that you're in your late 60s, sailors tattoos on your arms and neck, baggy trousers with braces (suspenders?) over a string-vest, shaking your walking-stick at those pesky 'indie rockers'.

Little bits of spittle fly from your enraged mouth as you curse the youngsters and optimistically/tragically ogle their lady-friends.

"I was young once you know! I'm no too old to give you a good stomping now either!! Come back you...you...indie-rockers, you! Argh! Argh, I'm tipping! Somebody help me up! I didn't fight on the boats so that the likes of you...etc"

I'm in my mid-30s, but I've hated indie rock since my very early 20s. Late teens, actually, now that I think of it.

"Wah wah wah, me, me, me. My pain, my story, my suffering genius. My special, unique and important white middle class story. My Velvet Underground records, my self-effacing stage presence. I didn't want to stand here & sing these songs, but someone else booked the show so well here I am. Usually I play my secret little songs in the basement with my friend from the thrift store & record them on a 4-track because we're not really serious about this music, but we are actually, but you can't tell, but you should take us seriously, but we're laughing at you."

Etc., etc. Fucking simpering, pandering, whiny indie rock assholes from Sebadoh to Sentridoh to Pavement to the yawning legions of imitiator sissies they've all spawned.

I guess this is more a tirade for a separate thread (or maybe a day I got out on a less cranky side of the bed), but I just wanted to lend a voice of solidarity on this topic.
