1. Vin-That guy from the 1.6 band and Crownhate Ruin. Pretty stellar.
2. Mac McNeilly- loose, yet tight.
3. Dale Crover. Commander of the Melvins.
4. Whoever played drums for Zeni Geva's 1996 American Tour. He wasn't japanese.
5. The Drummer from Heart, Little Queen era.
6. Bonzo
7. John McEntire when he was in Bastro. He was good in Tortoise too, just not as frantic and complex.
8. Mike Greenlees, from Tar. Simple, shifty, rocking.
9. Rey Washam in anything.
10. Mik Glaisher, Comsat Angels. Emphasize the toms, but do it methodically and simply.
oh and EAF poster Vockins is a damn good drummer too.

Curtis Crowe from Pylon was a powerhouse who nailed that whole Gang of Four dancepunk thing to the wall. He was also the cofounder of the famous 40 Watt Club.
seconded on both accounts

Wasn't it Blake Fleming from the Dazzling Killmen? I saw Zeni Geva around that time period and I want to say that's who was playing the drums.

164Susie Ibarra is wonderful, however I have never really liked the way she sounded on records. It seems to me she is more dynamic live.
Hamid Drake is also a monster on the drums as well as Yoshida Tatsuya of the Ruins.

I can't believe that in the 9 pages of this thread, this is the only mention of this wizard. One of my favorites.
Lil' Sunshine from Weakling is a one man stampede of the drums. I can't believe that someone can play that fast and in time.

168Nobody has mentioned Scott Macdonald from Arcwelder.
That is a damn shame. So I will do so. Scott Macdonald!
Powerful, creative, mesmerizing drummer.
I will also second Mac McNeilly and Michael Dahlquist.
