Radiohead To Self-Release New Album

you know all these blogs and people complaining that radiohead will just let a major release it in a few months- well, it's already out, everyone knows the songs, they know what it is about.

why would doing a proper release make all this mysterious money for Radiohead? Last time I looked people weren't necessarily buying "proper releases" (at least not in volumes that would make major labels coke-sniffing out-of-a-fruit-bowl circa 1985 rich)

I don't think there's some marketing ploy going on here. Radiohead has a web server. They have a shopping cart, you can buy the album for $0.00 downloaded from their webserver.

They aren't Madonna or Creed. I think this took balls.

It's very noble of them. The record's OK, not great. I'm enjoying it. It didn't hurt my wallet. It has a pretty good mood. Some of the songs sound like Fugazi parts played on acoustic guitars and in many ways it is more interesting than the Sea and Cake (which some of it sounds like too). I'm not complaining.

i've been listening to various radiohead tracks that i ripped from CD at both 192kbps with VBR and 320kbps.

i'm having a lot of trouble distinguishing between the two (bit rates) and i can distinguish vinyl from digital easily.

have any of you really given this a try?

on a side note: i've been enjoying this new radiohead more than the last three. it's a more solid album than them except for maybe kid a.

the box-set is beautiful. definitely worth spending 80 bucks and the long time waiting for it. I like the songs on the bonus CD very much.

I always wonder if the difference between cd and vinyl is caused by different masterings. I thought that Excellent Italian Greyhound sounds different on CD. I have lots of records on vinyl as well as on cd and I don't hear much of a difference in general (aside from the well known warm and punchy effect).
