I heard somewhere that you should only hold ONE key out. If you have keys through all fingers an attacker can grab the keys and squeeze them thus causing great pain to your hand.

I ride one of the silliest vehicles around (Vespa) so yeah, I get comments. It can be an exercise in patience. If I get called a fag I have learned to let it go or just respond with something grade schoolish like 'That's not what your mom called me last night'. If some idiot mistakenly tries to kill me I have some old spark plugs ready to throw (they can give a nice crack to a windshield when thrown at speed) and I carry a wratchet which, like the maglite, isn't really a weapon but can hurt if it hits you on the head. Usually I give a VERY exaggerated wave 'hi I'm driving here too' and the driver will make apologetic motions. Most people do not want you dead. Most of the time it is an honest/careless mistake.

Also, punching someone in a full face motorcycle helmet is a losing bet.

I'm not sure that Mars' punch could be called a sucker punch. If you give someone the finger and that guy gets out of his car and approaches your car it is pretty much a given that punches will be thrown. He should have been ready.

What i'm saying is that it is not about the driving situation. 9 times out of 10 that situation would have resulted in someone recognising that they were in the wrong or in a better postition to reverse and every thing would have been solved by an application of common courtesy and mutual respect. Who gives a shit if that guy left wthout any respect for Marsup' ? You reap what you sow.

You have been misinformed as to what a suckerpunch is.
I clearly and loudly informed him of my intentions to hit him well in advance of hitting him, after he in fact initiated the entire encounter with his purposely almost hitting me then giving me an obscene gesture.
A suckerpunch would be me walking up and hitting someone waiting for a bus who isn't at all expecting it.
This was a series of regular old punches, nowhere near suckerpunches.
I mean, how much more of a heads up could I have possibly given him that a punch was coming?

You could have let him get out of his car or off the phone, or both. Whether this falls under the 'suckerpunch' umbrella I don't know or care but essentially you punched a guy who was still sitting down.
