Bump. Dock.

Considering we can be mature people on here, this is an interesting topic.

I'm uncircumcised. I've never had a problem with it, and none of the girls I've been with have trouble with it either. I don't like that circumcision is still being performed in the modern world, as if it is somehow a necessity, and not the religious remnants of superstitious idiots. If I ever have a boy, I'm going to leave it as nature intended.

I had my dick shorn at birth-time. I once asked my parents about this and they said it's common practice, that it's done for the oft-touted health reasons.

Back when I was preparing for the taxi driver test, I studied with this Pakistani guy who was prone to the occasional rant about Jews and Zionism and whatnot. He said that he felt that circumcision is an affront to God and asked what kind of man would let such a thing happen to his son. When I told him I was circumcised and that it's a fairly common practice here in the States, even among Gentiles, he said, "See? How can you say your country is not run by Jews?" I had no real good rebuttal for that, so I just assured him I had endured it under protest.

You should have asked why, if he dislikes Jews so much, he came to settle in a country that he thinks is run by Jews, and why he left his own country, which isn't run by Jews.

I have no problem when people of other cultures settle here, but when they do so and then project their prejudices onto to the country they have chosen to settle in, it is irrational and irritating.

My professor just got Time's #1 medical breakthrough of the year for demonstrating that circumcision reduces HIV acquisition in men by 60+% in Kenya. Yeah, he's sitting on my committee for my thesis on heterosexual HIV risk in Chicago. JHC. I am going to have a fucking heart attack.

I wouldn't do it to a son of mine in the U.S., though. Little Jimmy could make that decision later in life. Until then, pull back and scrub, junior.

If I lived in Botswana, though, fuck yeah, I'd circumcise him at birth.

Okay!

edit p.s. - Um, I can't participate in this poll as listed, fellas. Yeah yeah, poll/pole, whatever, go sit in the corner.

But I'm cool with shorn or not.

Yeah, me too. I don't get the whole religious hatred thing anyway, but I'm sure that some would say it's because I come from the point-of-view of having grown up in the comfort of a privileged society.

I actually know quite a few people with some weird and/or distasteful quirks. Hell, I even have a few friends and some relatives who are Republicans and "Born-Again" Christians. Even though I may disagree with them on a lot of issues, I can sometimes still find ways to get along with them on other "levels". I guess I tend to judge people more on their actions than on their beliefs, but then again I'd never hang out with somebody like that cabbie guy on a regular basis, either.

Whenever he started going off on his Jew-hating tirades, I responded by asking him if he knew any Jewish people on a personal basis. I told him I know quite a few people, Jewish by birth and even by faith, whom I know for a fact to *not* be part of any international banking conspiracies, and who happen to have no involvement with the state of Israel, some of whom even happen to be non-Zionists. It's always weird and uncomfortable when somebody's strong opinions on a single irrational issue are the only thing keeping them from truly becoming a good and trusted friend.
