I knew of a guy who used an old 4x10 Bassman combo. It wasn't loud enough, so he added a second one. After a while of that, he gave up and bought an old Acoustic Control amp. Basically, that's a $2k practice amp.

So not new exactly, but this video (and there are many exploring similar territory) does a good job showing how dead simple the concept is.
I've been using LND150s in distortion pedals and really like them. You can make a pretty nice sounding mu-amp/SRPP out of them.
I hope someone can compare one of these to EA’s one day. I have always been vaguely curious about Warm Audio, but not enough to actually buy something.

Warm Audio making tube preamps based on old Ampex

I have a Warm Api Clone and it sounds pretty good. Build quality seems fine. No real complaints. For the price it is a great deal for 4 good sounding preamps. A buddy has a Neve knockoff and it also sounds very good to my ears. Im not sure in a mix anyone would be able to tell it from a real one and if they could, I'm not sure it would really matter. I've very interested in this Ampex Preamp idea.

I have nothing but good things to say about everything I've used from Warm (other than the name is cringey). I have a couple of their mic clones & have used their Neve pres and heard a lot of work done with their lunchbox API clones. It all sounds great to me. I wouldn't have bothered to reach out and consider an M380 clone if they didn't establish the track record showing they could pull off reasonable clones of other inaccessible/discontinued gear.
That being said, I always recommend caution/testing for this and any clones. Marketing materials are literally NEVER to be trusted. As is said everywhere: use your ears.
