BSSM is actually the right answer. But within its “field” OHM has some weirdly great moments. Navarro and Smith are clearly on the same wavelength. The space rock breakdowns are fantastic. And there are some monster riffs.
But, like all pre-Californication albums you need to completely ignore the lyrics and treat the vocals like an instrument there for rhythm and melody.
