Not that Tenacious D is countercultural in any way but it does makes me wonder if the aggressive disavowment of a leader like Reagan in the 80s would be acceptable today. Could there be a Rock Against Trump, so to speak? It seems now that any critique or mockery of MAGA will be manipulated by them as a threat, but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't happen. I agree that KG's sentiment taken in the public sphere wasn't well thought out, but I'm concerned that silencing opposing - even loudly rude and aggressive voices will become normalized.

Agreed. I'm sure a lot of us might think those thoughts, but not a very smart thing to blurt out that night.

But McCarthy era levels of censorship (other than with government officials) seems impossible to enforce with so many tech/communication avenues now. Just look at how many Twitter replacements popped up in a relatively short period and that's just for one dumb app.

Every time somebody on the left or even a normal liberal comes out like "i denounce what happened" it comes off like Trump disavowing David Duke and I wonder what they really think. And Jack Black is a bitch for not only cancelling their tour but also possibly breaking up Tenacious D over it.

My opinion of jack black actually went up. I wouldn’t want to be associated with that kind of hateful person. I’m trying to excuse it and I can’t.

I can only think that Jack and Kyle had a deep conversation about how to continue. In my mind it doesn't read as Jack throwing him under the bus as much as considering his own career as much as Kyle's. Perhaps that is shitty reasoning on my part being that they are longtime friends and should support each other even in the most trying of times.

I can't speak towards breaking up the band as they were never a fixture in my listening habits, but I can understand not continuing to tour based on what was said and how it could negatively inform the political climate and contribute to more violence.

All that said it's possible and more than time for bands, big and small, to step-up in a collective manner against Trump and fascism.
