Senses of Cinema is a highly informed and worthwhile website. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
But anyway, I have a legitimate question for TMidgett:
How exactly do you decide which label to release a recording on? I've always been quite curious about this, how a seasoned band or musician settles on working with a particular label for a given release when, presumably, they/he have several good options available. For instance, if you wanted to, couldn't you have all the BP recordings released on T&G? What's the advantage of working with a smaller, less ostensibly established label? Is it sometimes less problematic to self-release a recording, like you did with the vinyl version of Hammer of the Gods?
Hey Tmidgett
172I was re-reading Despair this w/end, which prompted an internet search resulting in this:

Thought you might be interested.
And no, of course it's not available on DVD.
Holy shit! I'm very very interested. I always thought Despair was completely ripe for adaptation.
Man, I'm gonna have to dig into that.
Thanks!

Ease of production. Ability to do it to our spec.
For instance, if you wanted to, couldn't you have all the BP recordings released on T&G?
No.
What's the advantage of working with a smaller, less ostensibly established label?
Proximity of trusted people to the actual day-to-day functioning of the label is what would matter. Regardless of label size.
Any relationship with a label is a business relationship primarily.
Is it sometimes less problematic to self-release a recording, like you did with the vinyl version of Hammer of the Gods?
If you have any commercial ambition whatsoever, putting out your own record is a pain in the ass.
If you have zero commercial ambition, then it's great. It is that binary.
If you have zero commercial ambition and someone to do most of the production work on your behalf, then it's even better.

Hmmmmmmmm.
Is this Rosie the girl who drew your tattoos? Those are great tattoos.
I have a ton of restaurants. Chicago is the best food town in the United States, so I recommend eating a lot.
What other interests do you have? There's a bit of everything. You should probably go to Dusty Groove and the Reckless on Broadway south of Belmont. I've never been to the one downtown, which Dylan runs.
tim,
yes, rosie drew my tattoos. i am hopefully getting another one soon.
we will be eating a lot. we like all foods. especially stuff we can't get here which is pretty much any foreign food. if we were to go to one restaurant in chicago which would you recommend?

If you wanted to go into debt, and probably have the best meal of your life I would recommend Alinea.
If you want to be the only white person there, I'd recommend you drive to Lem's and get small ends and hot links. Or even rib tips and hot links. You can't eat there--no tables. The last few times I have eaten Lem's, it has been godlike barbecue. Just transcendently awesome.
If you wanted to get treated not terribly well and still get decent service, and eat like a king, I'd recommend San Soo Gab San, which is probably my favorite place to eat in Chicago. Not necessarily the best, just my favorite.
If you wanted breakfast, I would recommend m. henry.
You know about Hot Doug's. And Kuma's. There is another place in that hood, Bittersweet, that is an excellent place. Great, small soup and sandwich menu, and excellent tarts and little cakes and cookies and stuff.

176Hi, Tim.
Do you happen to know the maker of the textile riding jacket Andy Cohen wears? It looks silver-y, but it's probably glowy hi-viz green. I like that jacket. It does not look motorcycle-y. 98% of things made for this purpose are aesthetically offensive to me.
I have looked a lot and have not seen much like it.
Thanks.

Man, this thread is back. WTF? It pleases my ego in some way.
Happy to help. I will find out.
It is hi-viz green. It is Kevlar, woven. It makes him look like an anime character.

178Hey Tim, what's your shoe size? Any pairs you want to sell? They're for my friend.
I was sanding down a sheet of acrylic plastic and managed to sand the front of my Docs off.
My friend, I mean. My friend sanded the tips of his boots off.

180Oh wise and benevolent Tim,
My first week of unemployment has coincided with the worst head cold I've had in years (every time I cough it feels like I've swallowed 30 ninja stars and some angry gravel) so I've come to my mothers house with the intention of curling up on the sofa and watching a film.
I have way too much choice though (I keep buying films quicker than I can watch them), any advice would be greatly appreciated.
The Science of Sleep
The Deerhunter
Chinatown
Cinema Paradiso
Weekend
Ichi The Killer
Paris, je t'aime
Visitor Q
Betty Blue
The Warriors
True Romance
P'tang Yang Kipperbang
And I still haven't cracked open my Bergman box set.
Love and kisses,
Russell
