I don't really but it is better now than 10 years ago. I recall one cool bar that also was a video arcade, though. Good cocktails and lots of great vintage games. IIRC some good bar food. Easily found on Google I'm sure.goatbreather wrote: Thu Sep 07, 2023 3:29 pm Anybody have any Sacramento recommendations? Bars, restaurants, outdoors stuff, bookstores, record stores... yadda yadda yadda. Much obliged.
Re: Catch-all travel thread
172I’m done w/ work in Stuttgart and have a free day tomorrow before I travel to Warsaw next week for more work.
I have not decided what to do yet tomorrow but have narrowed it down to the following. All are about two hours away by train:
a) Hang out in one of the towns on Lake Constance
b) Go to Nürnberg Altstadtfest
c) Go to München Oktoberfest
As discussed previously, I have no tent reservation for option c).
Leaning heavily towards option a) right now.

173Do Option A! I was actually going to suggest that trip when you first posted.
I ended up at Oktoberfest by accident like over 20 years ago, just hiking around Munich and sleeping in our van in the city for a night with my hiking buddy and we smelled roasted almonds after finding a parking spot for the night and followed the scent, only to discover the festival grounds and be like "oh yeah, it's late September". We got wasted and snuck into tents the whole time for a couple nights, it was a mess. This is the only way to do it, in your early 20s, barnstorming, otherwise it's probably pretty gross. I don't think you are missing anything at all, especially alone! Go have a nice day at the lake, take a ferry, go to the fortress etc.

174Yep, I just made a final decision after seeing your post and also that Friedrichshafen has a zeppelin museum. The airship, not the band.jimmy spako wrote: Fri Sep 15, 2023 12:14 pm Do Option A! I was actually going to suggest that trip when you first posted.

Every other person in Stuttgart must have had the same idea. This train is PACKED.

176Have a lovely time! We made a short stop at Lake Constance back in 1997 during a Black Forest trip, it's nice. Spent some time in Konstanz and Meersburg (perhaps worth a ferry ride over there to see the fortress, if it's not too much for a single day).jfv wrote: Sat Sep 16, 2023 12:49 amWell.. heading that way now.jfv wrote: Fri Sep 15, 2023 12:23 pmYep, I just made a final decision after seeing your post and also that Friedrichshafen has a zeppelin museum. 177Thanks! I did.jimmy spako wrote: Sat Sep 16, 2023 2:41 am Have a lovely time! We made a short stop at Lake Constance back in 1997 during a Black Forest trip, it's nice. I ended up purchasing a ticket for one-day unlimited regional train rides in Baden-Wuerttemberg for 25 Euro. One hell of a deal. Tried to take advantage of it by visiting multiple cities including several on Lake Constance and also went to Triberg in the Black Forest. Started at 6 AM this morning and got back to the hotel around 9 PM.
It was great.
I am exhausted.
