Sadly, not even close, although it's nice to see the ship listing so.
My ideal scenario is that he's popular enough to wound challengers but not popular enough to win.

Barring a major scandal, most likely. DeSantis has this infernal constellation of qualities that will appeal to his base here as well as many outside the state. There's a mixture of a dopey, "Aww shucks, did over 60,000 people die here? That's too bad. Not my fault" denialism around Covid-19, a quasi-lightheadness/evasiveness toward pressing issues that many find unthreatening; and then there's his more covert authoritarian agenda that attacks any vaguely progressive measures or reforms bit by bit, such that those not paying much attention might barely notice his maneuvering. He can run on a platform of "Let's return to normal/business as usual" and millions will pull the lever. He's also a good deal younger than Trump, only a year older than me, in fact (how's that for scary?).

It's too early to tell, but I'd hazard a guess that both the Dems and GOP will try to position candidates in their fifties or younger as their ones most likely to succeed.

The party of token resistance will continue to back Biden, or Harris if he dies. Just like they did with Hillary Clinton, it's their game plan to back hated candidates.

Stumbled upon a new online magazine founded by the Bellows dude. Some usual suspects among the writers.

"Only the Economic Left Can Beat the Woke"
"Why We Need the Patriarchy"
"The Case Against Aesthetic Castration" (= being a man after #metoo is hard because you can't say anything to women anymore)
"The Great Reset Is Real"

Our editorial choices are shaped by our desire for a strong social-democratic state that defends community—local and national, familial and religious—against a libertine left and a libertarian right.

I hate politics in 2022.

I hate politics in 2022.
Those titles alone are like something from a dystopian comedy.

Biden uttered these actual words while speaking to American soldiers the other day -
I mean, talk about what happened to Tiananmen Square. This is Tiananmen Square squared.
Who the fuck is writing his speeches?

This remains perhaps the best propaganda picture ever. Due for a reboot.

A bit of a plug but if anyone is interested in what has been going on in Brazil before and since the 2016 coup and broader LatAm issues check out

www.brasilwire.com

I would particularly recommend the article with a BW editor debating rightwing mouthpiece Glenn Greenwald, who has gone insane during the pandemic.
