Him and Tom Waits are both wannabe Howlin' Wolf. So, yes.

No. Why?

No. You mean 'Ursonate'? No, it's art that I've enjoyed as extreme retard comedy instead.

If he saids so.
Schtick isn't always awful either.

Satomi is from Japan. It's not a schtick.
She's also a talented musician, songwriter, vocalist and lyricist.
Any problems you have with understanding this are your own, not hers.

I wish someone would effectively explain to me why this good. I bought Runners Four after it was highly recommended by more than one person. I can't even get through one song. I like the odd shit, but I don't get this at all.

Oh, man. Thank god you posted. I had my head up my ass this whole time.
An indie rock band with a Japanese lady singing "Panda, Panda, Panda" is a silly schtick. I don't have a problem with it. Simply recognizing it. It's just one more piece of musical novelty that helps this band sell records. Nothing wrong with that either.

My girlfriend and I saw them last night for free in Brooklyn. It was disappointing. I've always liked the records, but live (at least on this particular evening) they were just a very bland rock band. And the retardation of Satomi's vocals became more obvious in this context for whatever reason. The songs they played from the new one (coming out later this year) left me mostly unimpressed.
Also, they played for nearly two hours which I don't think is favorable for a band like Deerhoof. But, hey, it was free and I still like the records.

so i had this really vivid dream the other night that satomi was trying to seduce me. if you can call outright groping seduction. for the record, she did not use babytalk.
i resist, saying, "na, this will definitely not be cool with greg, this will split up the band for sure" & she lets up & the dream ends like this.
still having scruples while sleeping: CRAP

Going by some of the japanese porn that I have seen, Your rapid eye movements must have permanently 'squinted' your eyes. Best of luck dealing with 2 satomis 2morrow just in case you have a dream rerun

I don't know if you dudes have seen all of the great Deerhoof videos they have on YouTube, but this is my favorite out of dozens of them. Girly and rocking at the same time.
This band is incredible -- last time I saw them I was acting like a big air-drumming dork, calling out ridiculous requests for Greg to sing his songs.
Can't wait to hear the new material with Ed Rodriguez. When does that shit hit the fans?
