Explain this sentence to me like I'm a boomer, please.

Edit: Oh wait, July 13 is attempted assassination date, J13 being like the January 6 (or J6) insurrection investigation.

I hope my snail paced comprehension helps someone else of my ilk.

Not that Tenacious D is countercultural in any way but it does makes me wonder if the aggressive disavowment of a leader like Reagan in the 80s would be acceptable today. Could there be a Rock Against Trump, so to speak? It seems now that any critique or mockery of MAGA will be manipulated by them as a threat, but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't happen. I agree that KG's sentiment taken in the public sphere wasn't well thought out, but I'm concerned that silencing opposing - even loudly rude and aggressive voices will become normalized.

That’s hilarious coming from such a sanctimonious prig.

Fuck, I gotta put you on ignore again.
Don’t give stupid posts that much power. Just call them out.

And Jack Black is a bitch for not only cancelling their tour but also possibly breaking up Tenacious D over it.
Amen.

Have spent most of the last week driving around the country visiting national parks.

Driving through and/or staying in many small cities with names such as Grand Junction, Reno, Arcata, Astoria, Aberdeen (x2), Idaho Falls, Billings, Rapid City, and Sioux Falls.

Most of these places appear super distressed, at least at a glance. Very different from where I live. People hanging by a thread. Quite a few flags flying upside-down.

I managed to watch JD Vance’s speech tonight, which simultaneously scared me, but also reiterated: Republicans are doing a way better job connecting with the people in these kinds of cities, regardless of whether their actual platform will help them.

Democrats really need to rethink their message.

If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you. - LBJ
Democrats really need to rethink their message.
Too busy with the rigamarole of manipulating their constituency to deliver any unifying message.

You know I hate to virtue signal but it’s pretty much what this thread is for. Deal with it.

Seriously aren’t you the guy who called Anthony flack a right winger? If u can be wrong about him you can be wrong about me.

Folks. Fighting amongst people broadly on the left-liberal spectrum is exactly what the ghouls want.

This OpEd from Owen Jones is pretty good. I’m not a huge fan of Jones, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.

It's getting close.

Harris' chances don't seem much better currently but at least she'll have the energy to hit the ground running I'd hope.

If the Dems are gonna correct course, they better do so soon. All hands on deck, with a minimum of infighting. Feels like Joe Biden himself would have to be part of this effort, though.

It's true, they could could stick with him, tough it out, and still potentially win, but if this blows up in their faces, then they'll have no one but themselves to blame.

Am reminded of the George Harrison line, "Our problems have been of our own creation . . ."

I hear frequently from Democrat messaging that Biden is staying in because he's the only one who is out-polling Trump. But isn't this disingenuous? A theoretical replacement is today at ground zero, true, but would have (limited) time, (vast) resources, and (presumably) Biden's endorsement, giving the public time to become familiar and build trust and support.
