I won't buy what Mr. Graham, King of The Turntables, says though. Obviously he hates the Dead Boys and most likely wasn't around when any of the original Punk Rock albums hit the shelves. Funny though, the comments about Dead Boys music sounds like what the old hippies and flare-wearing rockers who hated punk were saying at the time.

Punk completely ceased to be important right around the turn of the decade. Just because you kids "rediscovered" it and started your own bands doesn't mean that it continued to have the initial impact that it indeed had on the rock scene in general.

Don't talk to me about doing a "disservice" to punk rock's legacy. Just play with your smash 'n chop or whatever it is you do.

You're full of shit dickface.

Also, I didn't realise Propagandhi were a punk band.

To me shit like Giddy Motors and Jesus Lizard is punk rock, it's filthy and dirty and it's music that's not concerned with what's currently in or relevant, people with instruments playing whatever they want as long as they get release. My view of punk rock is no doubt completely different to the rest of you.

Steve V. wrote:Granted, there is a lot of truth in that statement.

But Propagandhi is the definite exception. They seriously are the most intelligent, interesting, and consistently astounding political punk rock band around. They could call it shabadoo goth folk and they'd be the best shabadoo goth folk band in the world.

Punk may've become unimportant, but that doesn't mean that every single band calling themselves punk rock is terrible. If it weren't for bands like Propagandhi, I may not have discovered "underground" or "independent" music. Propagandhi's formula for music is unlike any other punk rock band, and is also everchanging and challenging (politically)...

I disagree with you Zom.

Still, saying this late-to-the-game band made the Best Punk Rock Record ever when we already had, as an example, Never Mind The Bollocks, Rocket To Russia, The Clash, Young, Loud and Snotty to name a few is just crazy talk.

that Propagandhi record is my favourite punk record, too.

It's not crazy talk at all. AND I agree with you that punk is basically a dead language. still, this record hits me where I live.

fantastico.
kerble is right.

zom-zom, I don't get how I "hate the Dead Boys." I also don't know which decade's turn marked the death of punk (per you). If it was the '70s into the '80s, then I guess we are speaking in different languages. Oh well. I see punk as having had more of an effect than a few years' lifespan. If you disagree, that's your prerogative.

& if your approach to talking about music is this hardline (& yeah, dickish), then whatever; I don't see the point. I thought I was bringing up some engaging/valid points in a totally civil way; if dismissiveness is your general default, then I'm done here.

But either way, you can't take the Dead Boys away from me, homes. Maybe I wasn't old enough to cross the street by myself when they first played CBGBs, & maybe I do enjoy the music of the ghettos, with its wikki wikki wakka noises & drum machines, but I also love me some "Night of the Living Dead Boys." Reconcile that, granddad! Crazy!

Here are 10 perfect records, if by perfect you mean every song is great, "all killer and no filler" etc. Not in order. Strangely, the perfect records aren't always my favorite work by that band/artist.

1. Jesus Lizard-Goat
2. Brian Eno- Music for Airports
3. Willie Nelson - Red Headed Stranger
4. Congos- Heart of the Congos
5. Television - Marquee Moon
6. Stooges - Funhouse
7. Sun City Girls - Torch of the Mystics
8. Velvet Underground and Nico
9. Wire - Pink Flag
10. Ramones -s/t

For example, the first 3 Velvets records are all equally awesome to me, but the first one seems most "perfect" in the sense of coherent. Same for the Stooges, Wire and Ramones records listed here. Like for the Eno records, Tiger Mountain, Before and After Science and Another Green World each contain some of my favorite songs, but sometimes I skip "Fat Lady of Limburgh" so I guess Tiger Mountain isn't perfect. Perfect is a weird adjective for records.

Whatever, this is fun.

Great comeback. You certainly put me in my place.

Safe.

Also, everything you say is a lie.

I couldn't give a poop about putting you in your place, I just think you talk shit 24/7 and I'm telling you. Tell me you don't care and that you're great, whatever.
