If you're saying this stuff is overrated, you need an ear change.

Isolated moments on all of those are all that really get me going. Otherwise, it's Limp City

Ear change definitely needed.

You can listen to just about anything whilst under the influence of drugs and it will sound completely amazing. Funhouse is just amazing anyway. You don't need anything apart from your ears. It's just the best.

Those guys hated the San Fransisco acid scene. None of the psychedelic shit from that era even bothers to approach the ferociousness of Funhouse.

Actually, in the liner notes of the remastered reissued cd of "Funhouse", it mentions they were all on acid when recording this album, at least part of the time.

I think this album could be considered a precusor in some ways to some of the later, acid-damage music other bands have done.

i actually agree with you here, even though i wish i didn't. Mars are the weakest bunch on No New York.
It isn't that they do nothing to me, but whenever I hear them I think about how much better they could be - as if they're SO CLOSE to being totally brilliant. but they aren't.

Teenage Jesus are, for me, the weakest - but then, I despise Teenage Jesus in general, so take that with a grain of salt.

The best it ever got for Mars was the debut single. I don't mind noise, but I generally like a little structure, and that is what I don't like about Mars - that they devolved so much that everything fell apart. The "3-E/11,000 Volts" single and "Helen Fordsdale" are brilliant. If they'd made more stuff like that I'd've been a hardcore fan of theirs.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

Tough call, DNA had better songs, but my attraction to Teenage Jesus just seems much more natural. Everything about their music is so primal and overbearing, so seemingly untrained and simple. It just meshes in the best way possible. They're definitely the NNY band I listen to the most.

My pick for Mars in "Hairwaves"; I was actually a bit disappointed when I listen to "Helen Fordsdale" the first time.
