no no no, i'm sorry i did not mean they were better than the originals. i appreciate and am in awe of original blues artists such as blind blake or charley jordan way more than led zeppelin. as i was typing i seem to have forgotten the premise of the thread. these are just some of my favorite covers.

that being said, i don't think 'tarted up' is a fair assessment either. led zep might have been a glam/pop band of sorts but they did their music justice IMO. you have to remember that a significant amount of the blues songs recorded in the 20's and 30's or before 'rock music' came along were in fact covers anyway, as they had existed and mutated for several decades as traditional songs passed from person to person, before recording technology was available.

arguably due to racist barriers it took middle class white kids and wealthy corporate record companies to bring these songs to the mainstream, and that's certainly lamentable, but i don't blame led zeppelin or like their music any less because of it.

I'm comparing them now. Yes, Ministry's version is better. Better sounding, hefty drums, more up front bass, the vocals, the guitar is more pronounced.

Howard Devoto ain't got nothing on Jourgensen on this one, even if he did write the song.

Nah, I agree for the most part.
On the subject of The Faces, I like their rambling version quite a lot too.
Lennon's is a little sappy and overdone. Perhaps he was still on his Spector love kick? I mean it's great, but just as Macca's Long and Winding Road sounds so much better without the dramatic crap, Lennon's Jealous Guy was sort of almost the top and could have used a stripping down.
That's where Jimmy Scott be all over it.

I'm just cranky about the Magazine thing.
