Sorry, sweetheart, but I'm still alive and, by coincidence, listening to the live version "Killer McHann" from the singles comp right now. TJL are an okay rock band, but I stand by my CRAP vote. I suspect I'll never "get" TJL the way so many folks do, and I don't really care.
I like all the internet tough-talk from TJL fans, however. It's all very, very menacing.
I have never heard of Dishwalla.

I've always had an appreciation for this band ever since I bought and listened to Goat. Karpis is a personal favourite, and so is Mouthbreather.
What I dislike it that this particular band had a falling out with Steve Albini and then signed to a Major Label. Imagine if they had stayed with Touch and Go? How many more awesome albums they would've released.
Probably one of the greatest bands ever. Superb.

...yeah, I mean, I don't know whether they were seeking mainstream success, but they totally kicked ass. And without Steve's production, it went downhill. Listen to Down. It feels as if the life has been sucked out of it. Yes, I know it was on Touch and Go, but it was a completely different producer at the helm.

I think Down is Steve isn't it?
I always just assumed from interviews at the time that they had the songs for Down and Shot at the same time and opted to save the more 'up' ones for the album they made for a major. I remember reading an interview with Duane where he said words to the effect that they were making an album for T&G but it would be their last before moving to a major.
I think if they hadn't gone to the major they probably wouldn't have made anymore records after Mac quit. I always assumed they made the last stuff because they still owed it to the label. Not that it's even bad or anything but I know even when they split they still owed cash to the label.
What I'm saying is, there probably wouldn't have been anymore albums after Down (which may itself have been different) if they hadn't have left T&G.
That's just my angle on it. Where's DL Yow on the board when you need him?

Yow said as much in interviews about Mac quitting and the band finishing. Mark Prindle, maybe?

Last night I was trading in some records at work and this older dude brought in all his vinyl.
I scored the "Fly On the Wall" 7" and Fugazi's "3 Songs" from his collection. He had some Born Against, 7 Seconds shit too.
I was just really happy to see the Jesus Lizard vinyl jump out at me. Made my night.

Actually, a lot of the songs on Down and Blue are really good. They only suffer from an awful prog rock overproduction.
Anyone should listen to Gong (the final live show recording, available at the sendspace thread). Even the songs by the later Jesus Lizard kicked more ass than anything by any other band...
