My parents had drug me to Six Flags to see Heart and that sort of thing a few times when I was even younger, but the first live show I felt like I actively went to was B.B.King and Albert King at the Fox Theatre (St. Louis). I was 11 or 12, way into Hendrix, and thought that the whole 'electric blues' thing was for me.
Albert King was astounding. At some point, he picked up a piece of plywood laying by the stage and leaned it up across the front of his speaker cabinet (?). I still wonder why...it sure sounded good to me.
I also wonder what a lot of the fans who were there thought about the skinny white kid hanging around...the crowd seemed almost entirely populated by the most colorful sharkskin suits, fur hats, and some serious dresses. I remember being laughed at a bit...think I had a mullet and some 'jams' on, or something like that.
B.B. King was clean, but Albert was THE KING.

182in the early 1980's my dad took me to see the shadows. (pretty much the only band he has ever listened to.) i remember hank marvin had a spot of bother with a relatively new device that enabled him to play without a guitar cable. first show of my own choice. metallica 23/5/1990 like all good 15 year olds i had way to much holsten pils in the afternoon sun and had to vomit in a urinal during jason newsteads bass solo. still i saw fit to see them a further 5 times over the next 7 years.

183First post and its about my first show.
It was Nirvana and the Breeders in Tallahassee in 1993. I think Red Red Meat played too, but my memory is not too clear on this. I was only 13 and all I cared about was Nirvana.
My first "punk" show, if you want to defile the word "punk" by associating it with this event was the first Vans Warped Tour in Jacksonville, FL. For attending this I should be flogged repeatedly.

185Vinnie Moore @ The Vic Theatre, Chicago 1991. I don't remember who the opening acts were.
Followed a few weeks later by Yngwie Malmsteen w/ Shotgun Messiah also @ The Vic. I got to meet a very intoxicated Yngwie after the show thanks to the fine people @ WVVX.

186First was New Model Army in a shitty local club in '92. Great gig, absolutely packed out and the support act was a guy playing punk covers on an electric violin. I was 15.
Second was even better. Extreme Noise Terror again in a shitty local club in '92. There was probably 10 people there at the most and me and my mate were the only ones that had any clue who the band were. They were fucking awesome.
1st proper gig outside of the shitty town I lived in was Mudhoney in '93. Some skinhead cunt knocked my glasses off and stomped on them in the pit but it was still great
