I only bump this because I came across it via the Bob Seger thread. I really like Kylie Minogue's Fever album. I have no rationale justification for this. Perhaps it was because I was lonely and horny when I was first exposed to the singles on a series of Bally's Total Fitness television comercials. Ms. Minogue is reputed to have one of the finest asses in the world, and this reputation is justified. That got my attention, and I found the song fragments in these commercials compelling.

When I purchased the CD, red-faced and pretty much telling myself, Dude, get the fuck outta here - you can't be serious! I felt this hyper sense of self-awareness, like I was participating in a dumb, kitschy joke.

I listened to the whole thing and liked it, all of the songs. I listen to nothing else remotely similar. I could make a case that I liked the retro-sounding music or the disco basslines, but I don't give a shit about that stuff.

If I can pinpoint the appeal it's probably that, in part, I associate the music with her sexy-ness. But there is no other artist for whom this a consideration. There's something trenchant about her terrible voice. It has no depth; it's all breath. It's like this super magnified heavy breathing trapped in a cocoon of crappy dance music. There's something about that I like. Or was I just mesmerized by marketing?

I undoubtedly would get a raft of shit from many PRF stalwarts over the amount of simple, downtuned retro/stoner rock I love.

Those of my friends not in the know make fun of me for having Alabama Thunderpussy as a favorite band, mostly because of the name. But those who know dick about shit know that ATP are among the best underground metal bands going.
