I've been aware of this band called Nokturnel for years, always read about how they were some sort of under-appreciated lost gem, finally checked them out and it's really, really good shit (though unlikely to appeal to people not into metal already). I think this is everything they released since the 00's:http://nokturneldhr.bandcamp.comThis is a playlist of their first record, long out of print, they've been around since the late 80's:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SLTkVyQ ... B83629EC7DContemporaries / buddies with Human Remains, Ripping Corpse, etc, stylistically closer to the latter. So metal they had an EP out in 1994 called Anti-Grunge:http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/No ... unge/59682

Couple great hometown bands doing awesome stuff:CHRCH - Unanswered HymnsFantastic psychedelic funeral doom. They've been on the road a lot since this came out and have really tightened up as a band, I have high hopes for the followup. Mindblowing live act if you ever get the chance to see them.VRTRA - My Bones Hold a StillnessSuper dynamic, doomy black metal. My understanding is that they spent years writing their first record/rehearsing before they ever recorded or played live, so they just appeared fully formed. I have high hopes for them. Not so local bands:Body Void - RuinsGreat, sludgy stuff that feels a bit more structured than a lot of doom. It's an intense listen. As a bonus, Muhamad Ikbal Arifin's artwork for them is fucking fantastic.Hell - Hell IIIThese guys have been around for a while, apologies if they've already been posted. They put out filthily recorded, incredible miserable funeral doom. Dig that Doré Inferno art too.Black Tomb - Black TombI can't decide if anything really sets this band apart from other really heavy, really stoned doom bands, but I've been enjoying this album.

Fans of Sacramentum and Dissection take note. Maybe a dash of Blut Aus Nord in there too.
