You can end the incessant flames, because Skronk summed this argument up perfectly. Not all Jazz/Classical purists are old and the people who claim to know what music "is" and "isn't", can prefer any form(s) of music over others. They don't have to be Jazz/Classical purists... and some of those people might not even think an album like "Ascension" is musical at all. No one can decide whats music and what isn't. What is 'music' to me, may not be 'music' to you, but no one should brand the sounds someone else has created as 'not music'. Maybe some artists don't use 'instruments' per se, but they create new sounds (be it from a pre-recorded source or otherwise).

And I think Turntable "Music" sucks. It bores me. Do not try to convince me otherwise by citing examples that bring you to tears with the wakkity wikkity blub blub. That's your problem.

zom-zom, I am totally in agreement with your philosophy when it comes to trying to get someone to like stuff. I think we just differ in how we express our disinterest. It's funny that yours seems so based in respect for people's personal experience (i.e., older/more experienced musicians), & yet turns out to be pretty dismissive in this context.

Anyhow, seems like this is all kind of winding down, so unless anything else exciting happens, I'll see you around.

Slowing down and adding reverb to a song and expecting it to be more interesting, as a concept, is similar to plugging your cat into an electrical socket and expecting it to look like a television. Maybe some cats do this, but not many.

I wouldn't describe DJ Shadow as trivial, or even DJ Screw as trivial, but if everybody with an mp3 collection, a copy of audacity, and 14 seconds to spare now qualifies as a musician, this trivialises music.
