You can think of it as Body of Song v. 2.0, with Bob being more settled into the BoS formula this time out. Less angsty, more thoughtful. Bob's gotten over a lot of stuff, although the last verse of track 3 is one of his best recent-period zingers. There's a touch more acoustic and more developed dynamics this time out. I like it.

If you're going to get a new Bob release, you'd probably do better with the Circle of Friends DVD than either of his last two records. The DVD is from the 9:30 date of his '05 tour, full all-star band, with a great set list heavy on Hüsker Dü and Sugar numbers. Brendan does a pretty damn good Malcolm Travis, and I'll be damned if they didn't nail Sugar's live sound opening the main set with the first three off Copper Blue.
