But nobody's really going to vouch for "Sanitarium" or "Fade to Black" are they? Those songs are just terrible....
I love Sanitarium. I think hearing that song used in Paradise Lost was the first time I realized I liked a Metallica song.

It's like buying toilet paper. You're going to wipe your ass, again and again, so you might as well get as much as you can handle when you see it at the store. You're not going to get over wiping your ass, or decide that you're not into wiping your ass anymore, or think that wiping your ass was pretty cool in high school but now you're over it.
Metallica NOT CRAP
Fucking solid records to choose. I'd probably choose a different Neil record, but
Gold Rush is pretty superb.

Me neither, but I once held a sheet down on a windy day so my friend Mick could spray paint "Metal Up Louisville's Ass" onto it.
beautiful...
Yeah, he kinda fucked it up trying to replicate the Metallica logo--we were so high. When we held it up at the show (Ozzy/Metallica, summer '86), Cliff flipped us off. I thought Mick was gonna lose his mind.
On the way home, some friends of Mick's sister bummed a ride off of us, so his Camaro was overflowing with people. The teenage daughter of my physics teacher was forced to sit on my lap and totally busted me for copping a feel.
This may very well rank in the top 5 on my list of other people's greatest life stories.

The use of Metallica in this movie is pretty awesome. I believe it was also the first time their music had ever been used in a film.

I had the exact same experience.

I listened to Kill 'em all and Ride the Lightening a lot in the eleventh grade.
I stopped there and never revisited. I remember thinking they kicked every other metal type band's ass at the time and they weren't a hair band which was cool. I let the peer pressure of hating metal in favor of punk or post punk stuff to end my interest in future records.
I did buy the 45rpm versions of the two aforementioned records, I just may leave them sealed in hopes that a few years down the road they will help finance a guitar or something.

This shit has aged very, very well.
James Hetfield is a fantastic drummer.
He's so good that you don't notice one of the worst drummers on the face of the earth.

now that you put it this way, yes. yes he is. His riff rhythms are catchier than any drumbeat lars has eve done.
e.g., that squggly riff in between the lines "Sanitarium" and "Leave me be" is so freaking good. aims right for the middle of the brain.
