It's a 'distraction' for their side too. They can't win by by making white christian heritage their central focus. 'Bring back American jobs/revive the coal industry' is probably what put them over the top in 2016 but since that didn't happen.. at best they can try and make a decent economy (by the overrated metric of unemployment rates at least) their focus. Hammering him/them on racism/xenophobia, as well as the catastrophe at the border, is a good thing.

He's doing significant, long-lasting damage. Pressley is a bit wrong here. I mean, I get it if we were talking about modes of distraction other than stoking racial tension that's been simmering since the Civil War.

Some goober in the South is just aching for a reason to use his AR-15. These 'distractions' are giving him that reason.
