I mentioned that I bought a squire thinline tele deluxe; while it needed a little setting up (it was used) , it plays absolutely great. Recently I played a $1000 similar non thinline Fender tele deluxe, and I couldn't tell the difference. At least not enough to justify the cost.

I'm good with Squiers but I didn't like any of those (maybe the XII was OK). I just don't get the Strat variations. The Tele one looks cobbled together. If it had a trem, fair enough, but as is I don't get why someone would choose that over a Nashville Tele or whatever they're called - it feels like someone who really likes dogs chose a cat but dressed it up as a dog.

I agree, a lot of those remind me more of the Pawn Shop Series stuff than some of the more impressive Squiers of recent years. Though I suppose the JM 12 string might be a worthy alternative to a Danelectro.

They will most likely suck rather large balls, but who knows? Though most of what the original Sunn was known for was the big clean power amps of the 70s, which are wildly unnecessary in today's world.

If FMIC still owns the brand, my guess would be that they'll try to do something akin to what Orange has become. They don't have much presence in heavier genres, and the sunn marque would be an easy way into that market. Orange have obviously done extremely well for themselves by making modern stuff that sounds good and nods to the original 70s amps without being straight reissues.

I imagine that the people screaming the loudest for a direct slavish reproductions of OR120s and Model Ts are probably the least likely to actually fork out $3500 for those things.

Those 90s Model T reissues were legitimately nice amps, they just weren't straight copies of the original (which is a half step removed from a bassman anyway...).

Does Sunn O))) (the band) have to pay to use the logo on their merch?

Taking the Orange approach a step farther, the Crush SS equivalent could be the Beta Lead or Concert Lead and the premium line would be the Model T or 200s or whatever. Interesting... I wonder who is behind it.
