COOT is perfect.
My initial opinion is that it's not a patch on the first three but better than "Shot", "Blue" and-dare I say it?-"Down". I need to hear it more though but I'm fairly sure that it's better than "Blue" at least; I don't see that changing. I heard more diversity in the riffs; not just palm-muted chugs and power-chords but also some more dissonant riffs and the trademark arpeggiated stuff sorely missing in their major label era...OrthodoxEaster wrote: Sat Sep 14, 2024 10:39 am Jesus, people. You very well might get my jaded ass to drop $30 on a new record. I heard that song "Falling Down" yesterday and actually liked it. At least, it was better than the previous two tracks released as advances. (Really was not feeling that peppy one about the witch.)
Here's where I'm coming from: I think this band peaked w/Goat and began an abrupt slide w/Down (the last one I bought). I once had promo CDs of the final two records and sold 'em off, back when that was a financially lucrative endeavor. But I love, love, loved those first three (and Scratch Acid). Pull 'em out at least annually, maybe more.
Obviously, there's so much subjectivity here, but do you think I should snag an LP of this one? Worth it, given my take?
Fucking thirding this wish. Hope it's a quick, hassle-free blip in your overall treatment.Gramsci wrote:Cheers one and all. The antivirals just knocked it out super fast.

Actually, COOT might have split the difference between these two options.Bluegum LaBloat wrote: Tue Sep 10, 2024 3:31 pm Too old for mere DADS, but POPS would have been a great choice, for multiple reasons.
Now my copy arrived to spin I’d pretty much agree with your ranking, although I have soft spot for Down.jakethesnake wrote: Sat Sep 14, 2024 12:07 pmMy initial opinion is that it's not a patch on the first three but better than "Shot", "Blue" and-dare I say it?-"Down". Rhythmically, it's still a bit too streamlined and "straight" though...
Dudley + Mouthbreather beat that duo.Kniferide wrote: Goat is a funner record but the one/two punch of Boilermaker and Gladiator is one of the best record openers of all record history.

Boikermaker always seemed to me a less cool, cleaner version of Helmet's repetition.
I see what you did there.
