That seems like a lot of scratch for one of these to me but I may be way more rooted in the past where these Japanese guitars from 60s & 70s would go for $200 all day.

I have an sm7 and an m88 and an m201. Seems like I have plenty of nice dynamic mics for being a home recording guy. So why do I keep thinking of buying this cheap Heil mic?
My only half-assed TMOOI is that $270 doesn't seem THAT cheap to me for a dynamic mic? I mean not when compared to a lot of "standards" like SM57/SM58, e609/e906 anyway.

Also at < half the price I've also been sorta curious about the Rode PodMic to use in music applications. It does tout a slightly wider freq response on the outside of both ends than the Heil but just those are way on the extreme edges of "usable" anyway and who knows if Rode's fudging the numbers. No charts on either. The Rode isn't publishing a max on their SPL either at least not on their site.

Anyway... given the mics you've already listed, I wouldn't expect a dramatic difference in sound between those and the Heil. I'd probably recommend getting something with some more contrast first like an EV 635 & at 1/2 that price. Sometimes that thing is the perfect fit and the omni pattern is fun too. Heck you could get that and that Rode for < one of those Heils.

Two things...

- I've never played a Phase 3 bass(and I've played five and own one...) that I would give you more than two bills for. Half of the time, someone should be paying you to take one off of their hands.

- That Heil feels pretty pricey when I think that I could get a PVM 520, and blow the other hundred and fifty(or maybe more...) on scratch tickets/video slots/used Realistic dynamic microphones.

This was the real talk I needed. Thanks, dudes. It's off my shopping list.

Alto music in Middletown, New York has an endless supply of used beyerdynamics. They use stock photographs, and the same "used" mics have been continually listed for eight years. The minute they sell one, it gets immediately re-listed. I suspect they have a connection with beyerdynamic in Farmington New York to sell b-stock or returns or blemished mics or something like that. I've bought several from them and they seemed brand new when they arrived. Maybe not, but anyway, they constantly list "used" beyerdynamics for cheap and will even send you a discounted offer sometimes if you are watching them on Reverb. Plus you have 30 days to return it.

m160 for $562, including shipping:

Whoops! I don't think I did a very good job of talking you out of it!

One more voice for the "Not Really Talking You Out Of It..." chorus...

To the best of my recollection, I have never once heard a person lay out their regrets when it came to having purchased a m160.

Even if it does happen to be one of those rare "This Just Is Not For Me..." instances?

I'd imagine it will hold most of it's value if you would need to unload it.
