David Lynch's book,
Catching the Big Fish, is great. Very funny and inspiring. I thought it would be more abstract and not very insightful, but instead it gives a good peak into his whole process. Worth reading.

Mediocre director. The Nine Inch Nails of filmmakers.
The "weirdness" of Mulholland Drive derives from the fact that it was a TV pilot that, when dropped as a pilot, had to force itself to various plot "resolutions." Brilliant art? No. Half-assed crap.
However The Straight Story and the first season of Twin Peaks are both excellent.
People, there are other ways to feel "edgy" and smart than watching the films of David Lynch.

I find this statement somewhat simplistic, trilonaut.
A number of psychoanalytic theories have attempted to explain human personality, human sexuality.
It's stranger than fiction.

For David Lynch fans:
David Lynch appeared on Alex Jones' radio show yesterday to promote Inland Empire ( Warning: He also discussed his skepticism about the official story of 9/11 ).
Iconoclastic film director David Lynch has publicly questioned the official story of 9/11 on national U.S. radio, joining the Alex Jones Show to reiterate views that he first raised on Dutch television in December.

Great movies:
Mulholland Dr. (classic)
Lost Highway
Blue Velvet
The Straight Story
Good movies:
Fire Walk with Me
The Elephant Man
Eraserhead
Fair movies:
Wild at Heart
Not-so-good movies:
Dune
And the stuff he wrote/directed for the Twin Peaks series was mostly excellent.
Lynch has changed the landscape of filmmaking significantly. I think hating on him has become sport to an extent. It's sort of like hating on Jimi Hendrix--neither of them are gonna seem as over the top today, with so many imitators in their wake.
I think focusing on whether or not he's 'weird' or 'edgy' is less fruitful than focusing on his decisionmaking, visual content, and script arcs. Or just watching the movies w/o any special preconceptions.
That said, I understand completely why he is not everyone's cup of tea.
Hugely not crap.

Maybe so, but I'd like to see Lynch film a movie behind his head--or pour lighter fluid all over a movie and set fire to it just before he wraps production and walks off the set.
