Hey Michael,

Go easy on JZ. English is not his first language and (net)etiquette in the
English language often alludes him.

And JZ, Michael is correct, don’t post any of you ‘these are my mics’ stuff,
let the mics speak for themselves... I’ve said this before.

I don’t work for you and as a user I feel I can comment on the quality and
calibre, leave it at that. If you have anything to say talk about how the
mics are manufactured why you designed them the way you did, useful
information.

What I can say is that I have been FAR from impressed with BLUE’s mics. When
gigging in London a few years ago I was seriously looking at getting a BLUE
mic and made an appointment to test them at a local Pro audio store called
Turnkey.

Well the first mic I tried was broken, the capsule was rolling around inside
the grill like a babies rattle and the second one, while visually fine had
no signal... That put me off their mics.

I’ve heard of countless other stories of people who have been less than
happy with the support/service received from BLUE, but I’m sure there are
others who feel the opposite.

Now I’m not saying JZ is a saint but I do know of one user of his mics and
the mic in question arrived DOA, the user fixed it himself but JZ offered to
send him a brand new mic that speaks volumes for me on service/support, that
and the 5 year guarantee.

Anyways, who knows how this whole mix up will end with BLUE/Violet, but as
an end user, I am VERY happy with my mics performance.

Cheers

Matt

I'm not sure who you asked when you were looking for pro audio places in London but you were certainly lead astray. Turnkey are now just aiming at the bottom end of the home recording market - if you need professional service then go round the corner to Media Tools, they're part of the same company but, as I understand it, have very different levels of service.

Cheers

James.

I recently picked up a Blue Baby Bottle, and I'm pretty impressed with it. It has a light, airy sound that is fairly faithful and detailed. It's no Neumann, and it doesn't have a particularly "warm" sound, but it's pretty transparent. I'm currently using it on a singer-songwriter project and I'm overjoyed with the results... this mic was made for the singer I'm working with. That said, it's not the mic for everyone... certainly not for gruff, gritty, or powerful voices. But for female vocalists, or singers with a delicate touch, it's amazing.
But then again, life is short and there are too many lies to tell.

I have the oppertunity to buy a used blue microphone:

How do I identify that I am getting one of the old style Blue Microphones.

I understand the factory in Laphvia stopped making Blue Microphones in Fall 2004. Then there would have been backstock that would have been for sale into this year. Would there be any identifying marks to show the difference?

2 Things...

Be Weary of this JZ fellow... Especially with regards to this stuff. The site for his mics, i understand, was shut down due to Legal reasons, not technical issues.

I assume you are referring to a Blue mic that is not the "Bluebird", "Ball", "baby Bottle" or any of the other ball mics, because those were not made by the same folks as the main line (Bottle, Cactus, Mouse, Kiwi, Blueberry, Dragon Fly and so on), and i assume they are still just as they have been since intrduction.

As far as the other mics, there must be serial numbers that you can compare on the net somewhere...
