Braun (the drummer) was in Today is The Day for a short while - he plays only on In The Eys of God. Athough Mastadon are not, in my opinion, the brilliance they've been hailed to be, I think they are an important staple. They have talent and creativity, and I've never turned down an opportunity to see them.
Tallahassee opening for Eye Hate God (I was honestly more impressed with Keelhaul), Atlanta twice, The Relapse Fest in Philadelphia and incidentally, when I went to see Shellac at the Wiffleball tournament in Athens (cancelled), I was able to drown my sorrows that night at a Mastadon show in some trashed old student house "space."
I don't really know the rest of the guys except Braun but he's a good guy, so I'm gonna trash the waffles and just say solid not crap.
Congratulations Mastadon!
You deserve it.
