Whatever they're breaking, I'll take if they don't want it.

Crap. No waffle.

You will regret your gear, soon or later.

If you're able to negotiate a deal with the band that's doing the demolishing where you get to keep the leftover debris of the demolished instruments, then, yeah, I guess it might not be crap, at least not for you.
You could save a lot on spare parts that way.

i personally think if done properly - who, nirvana - then its something i have to be honest, i never tire of watching. and i personally enjoy smashing my guitar on the amp and slapping it about. you can get insane sounds without breaking them completly.

however, its mostly crap when people do it. they dont understand that it can be more than just 'look at me im smashing my guitar like an axe woo'. thats not cool. cobain was good.

i always grind my 1000 over the amp and shake it violently because it sounds awesome when you do.

you with your fire crackers sounds like shit.

pete townshend is deaf in one ear due to one of those explosives, right? anyways the who get not crap. and nirvana always seemed to be really into it. i mean diving into the drum set, i'd be a bit too timid and "not trying to get hurt" to ever do that, as would most people i know. hendrix is always not crap, which includes his moments of smashing/burning guitars.

i had a friend whose band has broken instruments in front of crowds of 5 people. wtf? i guess that's cool in a way but i don't know if it's um, worth it...

that "london calling" cover photo sure is crap... woulda made sense on the self-titled debut album, or at least somewhere on the album art there, but on london calling they aren't that band anymore, they are a lame band that i don't want to see breaking guitars.

rites of spring ostensibly disbanded because they destroyed all of their own equipment.

Or because they moved to different cities?

I also can't believe anyone is defending smashing gear by using The Who as an example...

I have an endorsement deal with Ibanez, so I can smash all the 7-strings I want.

I'm no fan of instrument destruction but the first UK tour TOD did when they demolished everything every night without any replacements or seemingly a care in the world was awesome and fun to watch. I can't speak for them now.
