Regardless, I'm going to check it out after work today and see just how picked over everything is. Isn't 20% off just like buying something from Amazon, though? Anyway, I'm really going to miss having a record store around that's open until midnight. Really, that was my favorite thing about them. You could have insomnia on a Sunday night and they'd be open. Ah well...
20% isn't much, but keep in mind that they are able to return most everything to their distributors.

Crap, I guess
For some reason, the buyers at Tower had a pretty good relationship with Southern, and over the years bought a lot of Sick Room stuff. So it was nice to go in there and see, for example, my old band The Distances CDs in a big record store in places like NYC, New Orleans, Denver, etc. It also helped convince some of my family and friends who don't know much about music that my label was legit because the CDs showed up on the racks of the big important store.
But overall, the were over-priced and failed to change their business model in the face of a transforming industry where consumers have a lot more options than before. Ergo they are the definition of a dinosaur and that's business and economics, if you can't compete, you can't survive. I would much, much rather support the corner, independent record store. Those guys are in enough trouble as it is anyway.

The rent in that place is in-fucking-sane, so I don't blame them. That'll be the 9th record store in the Lakeview East area that I can think of that's closed in the last 3-4 years.
Holy shit!

Woah-can someone else confirm this? Not that I don't trust you BC, but this is a pretty big fucking deal to me considering Reckless Bway is about the only record store I've purchased from in any volume for 10 years.

I work there, and no, we're not closing. I don't know who started that rumour. Don't worry, we're planning to be around for quite a while.
Stop in and say 'hi' sometime.
Oh, and regarding Tower:
20% isn't much, but keep in mind that they are able to return most everything to their distributors.
They owe too much to their distributors to be able to return anything. This is true. That was one tactic they attempted after the majors wouldn't ship them any more new releases, but the distributors wanted cash, not product. They were bought out by a liquidator, so the discounts might get bigger the longer they drag out this dead-horse-beating.

Thanks - good to be back.
You guys are moving the store though, right? I hear there's a bar and grill type place slated to take over your location soon...
Let's take it easy there...there are no plans to move. There's a spot next to us where Pleasure Chest used to be, but I heard RJ Reynolds had their eyes on that for an upscale smoking lounge.
By the way, where are you getting your info? PM me if you're more comfortable with that.

Look, the trust fundee college kid yuppie nothing assholes who inhabit that part of town are in dire need of another bar and grill type place. Stop being so selfish, think about them for once. They need another place to sit and have an overpriced beer with their douchebag friends more than we need a record store, ok?
There are only 20 or 30 places for them to sit in their kahki pants and baseball caps drink overpriced drinks within walking distance of reckless.

One of the guys at the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce said that you guys are moving out of that space, and that Metal Haven is closing (noooooo!!!!).
Metal Haven I can see, as they seem to have no customers. Ever. Even when we send them over. I guess they get lost.
Anyway, the manager of Reckless has been going over to the Chamber Of Commerce to ask about spaces opening up. That's the extent of it, though.

Let's take it easy there...there are no definite plans to move yet. We still have 3 years on the lease, and as far as I know, no one has dibs on our spot yet. There's a spoyt next to us where Pleasure Chest used to be, but I heard RJ Reynolds had their eyes on that for an upscale smoking lounge.

I think yr manager is not being so honest with you, I am hearing a quite different story from one of yr elder co-workers
