Porcini's is outstanding. I had the Ravioli con Funghi, and it was exactly what I wanted. A light cream sauce, earthy mushrooms, tuscan beans, and the chard I have come to love so much in the last couple years. I can't wait until our CSA deliveries start with that leafy wonder.

I walked up to the bar, sweaty from the walk from the bus a few blocks North, ordered a water, took a moment, and then ordered the Pappy 20-yr-old.

It was like Christmas in my mouth. I don't know how else to describe it.

When I got the bill, and noticed I'd paid $13 for a bourbon, neat, I thought for a moment.

It really was worth it. Those fifteen minutes I sipped that whiskey were spent thinking, "My God, this is the most delicious drink I've ever had."

Thank you, Ben. I cannot afford a bottle of this bourbon, but I will look forward to the next time I can have a glass.

Apparently a 23-yr-old version of this bourbon exists. The man next to me at the bar had had this bourbon. He said it was like 94-proof honey.

Unreal.

I am not eating much for the next couple days, though. Spendy.

fourth street live is like what 100 yards of the dead(er) area of the vegas strip looks like, but without anything ever really happening.

It's all relative, I suppose, but it just seems odd that he'd write a song about how great it was to get out of Louisville after reading all these positive comments (and also, Louisville has always had a reputation as a cool town, as far as I knew). I'm thinking of moving there, so I'm curious, that's all... not that I'd base my final decision on a Silver Jews song for fuck's sake! It just made me interested to see if anybody could offer some feedback.

i have to reiterate this scott carney/magnolia electric co show on saturday. and do make sure you arrive in time to see scott's set.

Wow! I've never heard about him being violent before.

If you do not eat at Vietnam Kitchen at least once while in town, you're a fool. It's on Third Street in Iroquois Manor, not exactly centrally located--take a cab if you have to.

I recommend the meatless hot & sour soup (a total revelation) and the mock duck with string bean. The tofu with eggplant and mushrooms is delicious, too--the tofu is so sweet and fluffy, like candy. Or if you're really hungry and like your food really salty, get the catfish in a clay pot.

This is the best restaurant in Louisville for those of us who are not rich.

This is one of the beautiful mysteries of the city that have had me homesick for years, and again finds me with a renewed fever to find gainful employment and just fucking move back.

Time spent living in Louisville, especially for those having not lived elsewhere, is often time spent waiting to leave. Once done, much time is eventually spent waiting to return. I know very very few people who moved away without at least a delayed intent to ruturn, and several who have bounced in and out several times.

Nothing ever happens in this town. But everything does, because of all the pissed off, bored, malcontents who are determined to vent their minds.
