Agreed,
Some random Serbian Revolutionary/Anarchist should put these Arch-douchebags out of their hopelessly banal misery.

I do not understand how anyone could say this. Have you heard Josef K? They were a tremendous band, and Franz Ferdinand don't really sound like them at all. FF are, however, a horrible, horrible band.

So... are you dissin' on Pitchfork Media? I thought they were the end all and be all of cool. They have to be. The record reviews that barely ever mention the record they're reviewing. The inane little stories contained within each review that are usually about someone's grandmother eating corn or about iceskating. They are the gods of hipsterism!
The people of Pitchforkmedia themselves would tell you that they are not hipsters but in fact obsessive music nerds. They get advance copies of all new music, so naturally they know about new music before everyone else. If you saw them in person you would definitely not confuse them with hipsters, unless you have a different definition of hipster than I do. They serve a good purpose of helping me out as a college radio music director, but all this talking of mainstream hip hop and reviewing fucking green day albums completely shreds any kind of indie cred people might assume they have. Any kind of true, just-off-the-boat-from-Williamsburg hipster worth his/her salt would not be hyping a MTV-played, major label band such as Franz Ferdinand. Bands hipster people would hype would be like Lightning Bolt or Animal Collective, and again, not something from a major label that is played on MTV. Because then its not hip anymore.

If Franz Ferdinand completely sucks then would you say it's their fault or your fault--there is no wrong answer here:
Not Crap

i recently heard a whole bunch of those new (or not so new by now) indie bands. believe it or not, FF album (the first one i think) was easily the best one of them. still not good enough for not crap, but after listening to maximo park and others, i can give FF credit for writing some catchy tunes. oh, and i have problems with their rhythm section. stuff they play is too heavy as for a dance music.
this is going to be OT, but has anyone heard the band called departure? they are amazingly, unbelieveably bad. probably the worst cd ever played on my hi-fi. total, total crap.

I don't mind FF. I think they are better than most of the "angular" bands. They brought it back first, I guess. I don't expect a lot out of them so when I hear them I think they are pretty good.
They do songs other than the 120bpm "pea soup - pea soup - pea soup" drum beat, which is a good start.
I think the chorus of Jacqueline is great:
"It's so much better on holiday, so much better on holiday, that's why we only work when, we need the money."
What I don't like are the other bands that came in their wake. At best, those bands aren't doing anything new (Kaiser Chiefs). At worst they are offensively bad (Killers).
I occasionally see one of the guys in Gang of Four. We were having dinner and discussing these new bands - Radio Four, The Killers, etc.
I said I didn't see why these bands get compared to GoF all the time.
My thought was, in the 70's, funk talked about the bullshit in the world, how The Man needs to be monitored and how things can be tough. Disco was a shiny object that that was designed to take you away from your worries. A steady dance beat and enough coke and all was well.
GoF wryly commented on society and how it was broken.
These other bands sing about partying.
So, GoF are essentially a "funk" band and all of these bands are "disco" bands.
He said "Well, sure, you're right, and that does make sense, but I have another theory about how they aren't like us:
all of those bands suck, and we don't."
Well said.

Are you fucking shitting me? I didn't even read the rest of the thread, because this post was so offensive, so transparently ignorant of any history of pop music and just so devoid of even a modicum of good taste, I couldn't stop myself.
Have our standards for visceral rock sunk so low?
DERIVATIVE CRAP. STOP SETTLING. BAAAAAAH. BAAAAAAAAH.
