that's why britain isn't really europe.
there's no way you'd get that kind of thing here. i'm not sayin' it's right or wrong but it's certainly something that separates us from those across the channel.
i've been to almost every country in europe and i loved them all. yet there is a strange attitude towards personal body space in many of the european countries i simply don't feel comfortable with. i prefer the asian approach, where everyone respects each other's privacy.

If I saw American dudes do this I would leave the room and vomit. Europeans can do whatever they want, I don't pretend to get the whole European thing. It would not suprise or shock me if one visiting me pulled his pants down and took a dump in my living room, then kicked it at the wall....I'd just assume that's what they did over there.
An Itallian friend who barely spoke English lived at my house for a few months, he'd get up in the morning to cook breakfast and all he'd be wearing is his little European man bikini underwear. He'd walk around like that for hours like it wasnt no thing.
I tried to explain that it was real uncomfortable for everyone and put some fucking clothes on but he just didn't understand what the big deal was. Next day he's wearing a t shirt and no pants making eggs. Nice guy though, he'd go on and on in broken English about how fat American women are and how disgusting and filthy he found them. Dude ruled on playstation tennis too.
This post just made my morning. Salut, American.

I've mainly seen people do this at gallery openings (men and women). Europeans, too... Not my thing, but whatever floats your boat. It just looks kind of forced/fake to me sometimes.

for some reason i found this very funny, almost spitting low-grade fruit juice all over the monitor at work.

i guess if you have an understanding between each other then why the fuck would i care how you choose to enact your greetings!? on the other hand, if you're some kind of person who unabashedly goes around kissing every person you meet and you kiss ME on the cheek, then i would be totally weirded out and uncomfortable and would think it very much CRAP indeed! (and i generally have the same reaction when strangers try to make small talk to me as well, so...any degree of social interaction is pretty much frowned upon as far as i'm concerned...) and this goes for if you're a guy or a girl...(unless the girl went ALL-THE-WAY and totally started making out with me! YEAH! ...okay, i'm not fooling myself...i'd probably cry if that really happened...) oh yeah, so crap or not crap? as i think this mostly applies to the former i'll say NOT CRAP...i've yet to meet anyone who tried to do this instead of like my grandmothers and stuff (and that's not man-on-man so that doesn't even count...)

it looks good when some people do it but i vote crap. for boys and girls. i don't like to cheek kiss. not with gay people, french people or anyone else. worked in upscale dining for many years and it was like every five seconds i had to dodge a cheek kiss while lighting tea-candles. someone coming in for the kill like that just makes me insanely uncomfortable. i know on at least two occassions i got confused and kissed somebody on the mouth i barely knew. and then there's the question of germs. does anybody's face need to be THAT close? i don't even accept hugs man.

I will admit that I've changed my opinion around about Vito. I feel sorry for the guy.
Last night's episode was great. Hard to pick a favorite moment, although the cell phone getting steamrolled really made me chuckle for some reason.
