Dunno how the Dietz is mounted, but you can probably make some kind of spacer somehow. If it's screwed in w/the speaker screws, you might have to decouple it from the speaker and screw it in w/separate screws.
this is where the weirdness of the dietz cab comes in. the speaker is front mounted to the inside of the front wall. the grill is also mounted to the inside of the front wall. the gasket actually sits on/pushes up against the grill. the taller gasket seemed to allow the speaker full travel, but this shorter gasket makes it hit the grill. basically, the grill is fixed and the speaker could move back further into the cab if it had a taller gasket.
you might be able to get an idea from this picture. it's not exactly the cab but the speaker mounting and grill are the same...
i think i just need to take the grill out and mount it to the outside of the cab. it'll be ugly, but i won't prematurely destroy my speaker.

I noticed this speaker-grill rubbing problem after taking out blown EV and replacing it with the reconed EV. Something too about the drop-D tuning makes the speaker rub more (perhaps more cone edge movement). I hadn't considered putting the grill on the outside of the speaker- that sounds like a good idea, although it would look quite GAE. maybe I could cut, with thin plywood and a jigsaw a circular cover with a hole in the middle to cover the edges of the grill on the outside of the cab once it is mounted this way, and paint it black to match the dietz cab shell.
Off topic somewhat, but related- the Mesa series Diesel Cabs (not made any more, but the same form factor as the Dietz Theile design but 2" deeper) have rubber gaskets holding the grill on, and I might add, sound a bit better than the Dietz does. You can find these puppies for $200 with EV 15ML's in 'em too. That's the deal... I am using one of those and the Dietz 1-15 with a GK800RB and it sounds darned swell. Both, of course have these lovely EV 15ML's 400 watt series in em.

i moved the grill to the outside and stapled it on as it was on the inside. that was easier said than done given the bulletproof epoxy coating on the cab. it's not great, but it's protecting my speaker in the short term. it resonates a bit on some frequencies so i think i'm going to recreate that diesel grill design somehow (i have one of those too). some rubber spacers, a piece of hole-y metal, etc.

With that cab, I would cut a thicker gasket out of some kind of hard foam or something. I think.
My cabs are old Mesas, which have top-loaded speakers with the grills over them (separate mounting screws).

No, but maybe ebay is hiding my identity for some reason. I checked and we both won ours from the same guy. When I check my auction it has my user name. Wacky. Perhaps I am in some sort of witness protection program and am not aware of it.
